Britains Oldest Town
Archeological dig by the University of Buckingham reveals that the oldest town in Britain is Amesbury [near Stonehenge], continuously occupied since 8800 BC - this is around the time that Britain became an island !

Living in such a young Country, it's really amazing to me that you get to visit these historical places. I can't fathom a town being settled for that long.

Amesbury is a beautiful little village.
I discovered it on my first Solstice and go there each time now and it's as much a part of my trips as the sacred sites

I didn't know that about Amesbury, Norseman! Thanks for that.
I've never been to Durham, but it looks like a lovely place, from the photo of Millburngate Bridge.

It does actually say that Amesbury has been occupied since 900AD, but that the nearby lands were occupied since around 7600BC. However these areas were not in Amesbury itself.
