She wasn't "confident", she was OBEDIENT and that can look confident but it's form of emotional dysfunction as is seen in other parts of the film where she "obeys" Grey and that kind of obedient Codependency is going to lead to even darker dramas in their mentally unhealthy lives. They are both emotionally ill and that is what draws them to each other. I won't be surprised if he ends up killing her, accidentally or deliberately or she kills him. Of course the film makers could have them both getting into psychotherapy and become happy ever after but that's not what the public wants so, there's no $$$ for the rich investors in that kind of story. Personally, I'd like to see the story turn out on the side of ultimate happiness for both characters.

I can relate to codependency by going to see someone it just seems it is not worth it.

Nice to know comments and glad I can understand and learn.
