It could be that " like attracts like" for some. For could be comfort of some kind may be found or felt. " No one is opposing my beliefs or view point" sort of thing. Just some thoughts on this.
I don't feel one is necessarily born to "resist". Babies seem pretty open to being loved and open. Unless something happens to him/her that causes a change or mistrust.
There is comfort to be found in having support. This can go both ways. Supporting ones beliefs and being strict or supporting ones choice and being open.
Resistance can go both ways as well. Much like someone who may go through the pains of addiction and resist getting help because fearful of the pain of withdrawal or changing ones life or simply does not have the support around him/her. Or someone resisting anything to do with that lifestyle because he/she feels it is destructive.
Sometimes the demon known in a strange way can be more comforting then that which is unknown, for some, IMO. For the unknown can be frightening for some and some may simply not know any other way to be.
It can be complex, for humans are complex beings.
Guess may depend where one is at in life. If another sees a person as resisting something, perhaps it is the other who is resisting to being open or accepting how that person lives or views life.
Just some thoughts on this. It is an interesting question.
