Kamaloka, ghosts and NDEs.

Many astral travelers report having a physical experience in the astral plane when out of their body. The astral universe is hundreds of times larger than the material cosmos according to Paramahansa Yogananda. The earth like astral is geographically in the same place as us with an astral version of every country. The astral plane is also known as Kamaloka which is the realm of desire. According to The Mahatma Letters the stay in Kamaloka is not very long. It can be all from a few hours to days, months or several years (but rarely less than a few hours). Our astral form is referred to as Kamarupa. When our stay in Kamaloka is complete our Kamarupa fades out and that is our second death. Then we proceed forward on our journey. According to hypnotherapist Michael Newton both young and old souls travel away from earth and Kamaloka after death by the means of the tunnel before entering a bright light. This realm of light corresponds to Devachan. The spirit guide Silver Birch says that many people enter a state of unconsciousness after death and wakes up in a rehab type setting in a hospital. Cyrus Kirkpatrick says his mom was in this rehab for a while. Many other mediums talks of this rehab type setting aswell. One of these mediums is Geraldine Cummins, an automatic writing medium. Frederic Myers communicated through Geraldine and in the book The Road to Immortality Frederic Myers explains that he rested in Hades. Then he proceeded to The Plane of Illusion (which to me is the same as Kamaloka/Astral Plane).

A question i keep thinking about is this:

1. The light that mediums bring ghosts over to and the light NDErs go to, is this the same light? Let's say a killer or someone who doesn't know they are dead is brought over by a medium. Does that ghost end up in the mindblowing place that NDErs experience? Or does the ghost go to the middle astral plane (Kamaloka)? Susanne Wilson describes the spirit world as a solid place and that there are astral versions of different countries. But she is also a medium and talks about when ghosts cross over into the light before going to this spirit world. I wasn't able to email her about the NDE vs ghost stuff so maybe someone here knows this. Is the profound light realm described in NDEs the same place ghosts go to after they enter the light that mediums create for them? Or do they go to Kamaloka like many other normal humans?

My perspective is that the light is the light of our own Soul. The death of the physical body is sufficiently significant to attract the attention of the Soul to the personality, but the Soul will only descend so far. The personality has to ascend to a level where it can encounter the Soul. After this reunion, the personality goes to whichever astral subplane/environment resonates with its own vibrations.

What you call a ghost, I would call a disembodied personality which has become lost, so it wanders on the Earth plane, perhaps not realising that he or she has died, or perhaps knowing that they have died but with no idea where they are meant to go next. A medium may guide such an entity so it leaves the Earth regions and goes to meet the Soul.

Someone may have an NDE but not see any light. Perhaps they have not ascended to a sufficiently high level to encounter the light of the Soul.

You mention Devachan. In Theosophical teachings Devachan is found on the higher mental subplanes. This is reached after discarding both the astral and lower mental bodies. Then consciousness rests in the causal body, absorbing the lessons of the last incarnation and preparing for the next incarnation. The attainment of devachan requires a certain level of development - i.e. the ability to consciously function on the higher mental subplanes. For those who cannot function consciously on these higher mental subplanes then devachan is a time of unconsciousness, rather like someone going to sleep and then waking at the start of a new day.

Some people do not like the technicalities of the Theosophical approach, but for me it all makes sense.

Peace
