Brain and Heart

What would the purpose of the brain and heart be?
A materialist would say that heart pumps blood and brain drives everything including seeing, thinking, once dead that's it the end of existence. What are your opinions?

The brain is the communication device for the consciousness. The heart is the device that keeps the body going and the consciousness attached to the body.

If you look at people such as Gregg Braden and Dr Joe Dispenza, they will tell you that the heart has its own "brain" comprised of millions of brain cells (neurons) in and of itself...they have found the heart actually "thinks" but not the same way that the brain does.

They also found that the heart creates its own toroidal energy field and flow, extending out from the body for 2 meters (6 feet). They posit that the heart is the seat of human consciousness and not the mind/brain, which is only really just "along for the ride".

I believe what you say here.

I always liked this saying.

....and for some, that "long journey" also works in reverse.

All metaphorical. They work along with every other organ in the body to perpetuate what most people call life - maintaining the apparatus that gives rise to the spirit that you are. Difficult to refer to the relationship between heart and brain without reference to the vagus nerve, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous components and the peripherals. Remove any of them and the body dies. There are many nodes of pre-processing in the body - heart, sight, hearing, etc.

That's the way it is.

Many thanks to all four!Interesting thoughts. One would say that the brain that has neurons drives the whole activity of the body and acts as a tool to perceive reality through perception and that consciousness is brain emergent, once dead that's the end of existence. If afterlife depends on consciousness as on thoughts does this mean that the ones who don't believe in afterlife will perish? Does life have an opposite? I see patterns within the Universe (day-night, hot-cold, up-down, birth-death), what would be the opposite of life?
I was told that the body (embryo) is made first (sperm+ovule) and then the spirit is attached to it, so this made me think, if the body is created first such as body existing before, spirit comes from somewhere inhabits body for some years and then leaves back from where it came from. Shouldn't we say the body left the soul?

You may want to study the sutratma, the connection between consciousness and the physical body.

The sutratma (the thread of Atman) has a consciousness thread which connects to the brain and a life thread which connects to the heart.

The consciousness thread temporarily withdraws from the brain every night while we sleep, hence the loss of consciousness.

The life thread remains connected to the heart throughout the physical incarnation. When the life thread withdraws then the physical body dies.

Peace.

Hello

What would the purpose of the brain and heart be?

This is an interesting question as we are driven by internal and external forces I feel. The brain is our logic center but too we it can be said have that 6th sense that fires outside the brain's logic center. I feel that the brain is just that the logic center that part of us that makes us function and keeps the body in line. We can have brain damage and that will alter our perspective's and how the body functions but we continue to live. At times we have to wonder on why if we are put into a state of disfunction.

The heart I feel is two fold it is htat organ that pumps our very life's blood, and it is the houseing for our very life force energy. That part of us that is very much that living flesh and blood of our being. Too the heart is that connecion I feel to our emotional center on some levels that is connected to the brain and to the higher part of us that is outside the body. The heart is the center of the Universe in us at times. The heart can be broken on the physical level, where the body breaks down. Too the heart can be broken emotionally where we feel pain in a loss or situation.

It has recently been shown on the scientific level that we can have an emotionally broken heart. WHile there is no physical damge to the heart as the organ it is we can have heartache there.

Lynn

Here is a great site on Brain-Heart Coherence https://www.heartmath.org/science/

I personally am at the moment trying living this way. Takes practice and patience.
