My boss

So my colleague is retiring in August. It takes about 6 months to train someone else for her position. They haven't come out with an ad yet for her role. Yesterday, I was in my desk then my boss suddenly comes up to me saying, he's asked the one retiring to start copying me on the emails going forward and he proceeded to saying, "you are her back up".

I don't want to assume but does that mean he's considering me to take over her role when she leaves? Or just in the meantime until an ad comes out and they hire someone else?

He also mentioned early in January, there's going to be a re-shuffle soon at work. My colleague thinks that I should put two and two together, meaning I'll be doing her job.

The answer you seek is inside of you. Situations like this are a good
training ground for you to learn how to trust your deeper being and
develop a stronger intuition. Things are not always what they appear to
be on the outside, so ask the question in your heart and see how that
feels. But don’t get your hopes up one way or the other, put your desires
out to the universe and then let go of them. Anxiety can get in the way
of things manifesting as you would like. Whatever is happening to you
use it for training yourself on a deeper level.

GalTray. It’s simple really, all you have to do is say to your boss…..hey I was just wondering what you meant when you said the other day, “you are her back up”.

Being straight up with people saves a helluva lot of head aches and “what ifs” and will give you peace of mind. IMO

...and also, depending on how many other people you work with you could ask some of them whether they are being tagged on her emails too...

Hi GalTrav, I agree with Redchic12—it's much better to ask than to guess. I think talking to your boss would be the best approach. Personally, I usually go directly to my manager or send him a message to clarify any ambiguous situations.
