Door knocking

Knockings(3 times) at the door(without anybody we could see outside)at around 3 am happened a few times with my family,
particularly at my sister's family place.
I also heard a man's moaning (in laboured breathing) twice or so right at her house's rear wall but once again, can't find anybody on either side of it.
The old people of the house told us to never open the door to any knockings like it especially to anybody unseen lest we let death in.
If nobody answers when asked, it's not likely to be anything good.

It hasn't happened to me lately. I've also had the sensation of something passing through me in a very uncomfortable way while I was sleeping(often when taking a nap). This hasn't happened to me lately either.

With the knocking it was usually a very fast rap and maybe two or three times. I don't think it was ever just one knock. It was very loud and really sounded like someone was at my door. It never happened when I was completely awake though.

Well spirits do have hands they are just not in the dense form yours and mine are in. They make knocking sounds, foot steps, and move things just as you and I do with energy. Twice I have heard the doorbell ring, and no one was there .... and no, it wasn't someone playing the game of " ring the bell and run away " ....it woke me up from a deep sleep. I always wondered if there was some particular reason, I was woken up at that time, like that. Never quite figured it out.

Would you say, that knocking on a door is a different sound than rapping on a wall ?

that would scare me enough, NOT to open the door ! not that I would open it anyways .....

Yesterday, I heard knocking for the first time I can remember. Two solid knocks just as I was snoozing at 6 am. They woke me strait up. Later that night, my son heard two knocks, he thought someone was at our front door which was right behind him. Of course no one was there. What preceded all this, two days earlier, my girlfriend saw a "face" peering at her from around the corner in the bathroom, then later that night, something made our mattress shake as we were laying in bed. Don't think I like this stuff....

A big bed I've been in was shaken a few times before as well. If it was something paranormal, it didn't incite some fear in me, so I just didn't think much of it.
Considering vibrations gets distorted/even magnified on bedtimes (hypnagogic state),
I just thought it to be earthquakes or vibrations through the towers with it's 4 basement layers, as it is pretty obvious when really big trucks pass by the area. So, waking up to a shuddering bed does not necessarily mean it is paranormal.

In seeing a face, I remember a friend's feedback about a spell I tried on him where he said he kind of always can see my face even when he goes to sleep.
So, other than haunting, your GF may have gotten entangled/fallen under a spell of others or her own spell herself. Spells can come in a number of ways and not only by magic, it can simply be just as one being under hypnosis.
