I use what happens to be commonly found in my area or plants I have relative ease getting a hold of locally. While I could order sage online anytime I feel this to be unnatural to me. Sage is used commonly today and I can't help to feel it's all a bit trendy.

I try to do in my practice what my ancestors would have done. Which would to be to use something natural from their place of habitat. Natives of North America didn't order white sage, cedar, or sweetgrass via web.

I simply use hand picked lilac during the Summer and hand grown or gifted Marigold flower in the Autumn.

This Autumn I was very lucky to receive fresh Marigold flowers from a co-worker of my mother's.

Marigold is easily available during the Autumn months here as many around here take part in Day of the Dead celebrations of the South.

I also love to try my hand at growing it.

That is what I've used for my smudges the previous two years now.

I'll have to see what I have in my environment this upcoming year as I've moved again.

Hand picked medicine is the only way to be sure it was picked with the right
intention, asking and thanksgiving and gratefulness.

I fell in love with cedar during my first sweatlodge. The crackling bits on top of the hot stones made such a beautiful smell surround us. Was heavenly. Prior to this, I had never burned it.

I smudge with

Blue and white sage
Sweet grass
Cedar
Lavender
Palo santo wood
Frank n myrrh resin
