How to love God?

Hi,

This is a spin-off of the thread “How to love yourself?”.

So How to love God? I would love to hear your comments.

My turn:

I love my Higher Self by accepting to change for him. He wishes that I become a paranormalist. I accept and work on this although I find it disgusting. I accept because I love him.

Thanks!

Hello,

It is important to think in terms of loving the higher self. I do that by putting the spiritual guidance I receive into practice.

This is my take and experience and I'm sure there are other ways or paths.

'See' God in everyone and everything. By 'see' I mean experience and I understand that seems like it's easier said than done, but it's not impossible.

The doorway for me was to first experience it for myself internally, by opening up and experiencing a space between bare awareness and mind-body through meditation and specifically practicing choiceless awareness.

By first intellectually or conceptually understanding the significance of that separation and then directly experiencing via the above-mentioned practice. To directly experience what I Am vs. who I thought I was. After that became a reality instead of a belief the natural or organic outcome was to see it all around in everyone and everything.

In a nutshell it's the concept of nonduality and my understanding was crystalized by the teachings of Advaita Vedanta.

EDIT: By the way, my understanding and experience informs me there is no difference between loving one's self and loving God. It's one and the same.

My turn...

When I perceive the concept known as "God", I get the experience of an infinite, cosmic ocean of unconditional love, healing energy, soul nurturing, and an all-consuming and pervasive form of intrinsic awareness and profound intelligence from the sub atomic level, right up to the universal, multi-dimensional level.

There is nothing that God is not and nowhere that God is not and I often get the feeling of being a growing foetus inside the "womb of the Divine" or being wrapped up and enveloped in this experience of a "loving presence" like a warm hug or sinking into that warm, peaceful ocean or a bath of peace, joy and total relaxation.

The way to love God is to stop fighting against the flow..stop swimming against the current to try and control situations and events...instead, just let go and allow it to take you along for the ride.."there but for the Grace of God, go I".

It is also important to feel and experience just how much love that God has for me...for you...for all things. God expresses it so perfectly, so beautifully and so exquisitely that when it is felt, I cannot help but reciprocate it ..knowing that I cannot do as good of a job at feeling or expressing my love towards the Divine as He does towards me...but that is the whole nature of it.

It really isn't anything the mind gets involved in...it just happens when it happens, but being open to it happening and not trying not to rationalise it, judge it or dismiss it will make it occur more frequently over time.

Before asking "How do I ...", I have to decide that "I should do ..."

You asked “How to love yourself?”, and now "How to love God?". I assume that you've decided that that's what you should do. I am curious, if you want to share, why do you believe that you should do (feel) so.

Anyway, I believe that there is only one answer to both questions: fulfill the purpose for which you're here, alive, now!

In my opinion, if you're asking either of those two questions, then it's extremely likely that you don't know the purpose for which you're here, alive, now. So, start by finding out that! ... preferably, not taking anybody's word for it, but finding out first-handedly.

Also ... if you reluctantly wish something, it's almost sure you won't materialize it into your life.

Thanks for your reply. On the other thread jyotir responded that i should love God (in order to love myself). Hence this thread.

Sorry, cuz I say this often---in order to love somebody, you have to know them.

You can say you love the puppy you're going to get soon because you've seen it's photo and heard about it.
But that's not love---you're loving the thought, the idea of the puppy.
To love the real, live puppy you have to know that puppy.

Same with God...it's ok to love an idea, a thought or other people's description of Him from 1000s of yrs ago...sure.
But, to truly love Him, if that is your goal - you have to know Him personally.

Then, lemmetellya - you can't help but adore Him.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

This is relevant for sure .. There is ignorance in effect when one blindly engages in a love for what they do not know ..

One might as well love the bogey man who supposedly lives under their bed but has never been seen..

You get plenty of church goers that declare their love for God and Jesus but show no real love to thy neighbours ..

It really depends on where you are at and if there is no idea whatsoever then one must look within ... no point in declaring love for something one has no clue or idea about ..

As with most things a relationship is built and in time there is a stronger bond made .. this same bond can be seen within loving self and God, be it the same, but like said, it depends on where one is at .. in the knowing of that ..
