sahaja yoga

Has anyone here ever been involved with sahaja yoga and Shri Mataji? I'd like to hear about any experiences with this group.

I researched: very interesting, I will be reading the articles and viewing the meditation videos, thank you. Best thing: group participation is not necessary as it is an individual self-realization path. Not a cult in other words, which is the first thing I look to determine.

So, a little bit of feedback now that I've read/watched. There is truth in every path, so that needs to be kept in mind. That said, new-age lecturers and book/DVD-selling charlatans peddle so-called ascension and kundalini-awakening like it's the new chicken soup for the soul.

"Sick of spending weeks, months and years working on your personal, inner self-development? Of course you are, and have I got a time-saving soul-expanding shortcut for you!" Spirituality for the 21st century and the attention-span challenged.

Nobody seems to be asking for money for this, so that's certainly a plus.

Yes indeed. It actually seems quite irresponsible, to awaken someones kundalini as a supposed shortcut, irregardless of the stability of the student, no personal guidance, and no information about the possible negative effects of kundalini.

Do you think inner self-development should happen before raising kundalini, or that kundalini leads to appropriate self-development, just a lot faster, which seems to be how it is often promoted?

Me, I focus on me and what works for me. Regarding the video and meditation, I wouldn't do this myself, for the reason you suggest. If someone asked my opinion, I would tell them what I think. Because there is in fact information one can read listing the dangers of awakening kundalini if the individual isn't ready. But I couldn't tell them what to do, that's their choice and karma. As for self-development, that's an ongoing and never-ending journey; it's not something that "happens first" before something else can happen. My opinion anyway.

Yeah...Sahaja Yoga - EASY yoga...let's raise kundalini the EASY way...bingo...done...feel the cool breeze...feel it! What 'cool breeze'? lol

Where does it leave those who have spent lifetimes trying to raise kundalini...eh?

New-age Hinduism at its finest right there!

Wouldn't go there if they paid me...
