Haiku for Sean 3/3/87 ~ 2/14/10

[Silver]

No matter where I wander

There's an empty space where you belong.

It creeps up on me sometimes
when I'm getting ready to go somewhere,
The Monster
That collective thing that took you away.
I'm overdramatic perhaps
But this monster comes up behind me
and scares me and makes me cry and mourn
for you.
I'm learning not to chide myself
so much for doing that.
Sometimes I'm calmed by
hearing your voice saying 'mom'.
Things will never be the same, though...

The hand on the shoulder,

and silence

the inward smile of appreciation

the downard glance

all is truly well

when we're there

for another

for we are one.

Hi Silver

I just came across this passage you wrote about Seans handwriting, and what it means to you.

I can so understand how you feel when you say you want to keep it.

Photos of a person are one thing, but handwriting is very personal ....... its a little part of him that survives still with you.

I felt the same thing recently after Dad passed away.

While we were clearing his house of personal things, we came across a bunch of storage jars in the kitchen cupboard.

Nothing fancy, just cheap glass jars that Mum used, to store different cooking ingredients ......... she loved cooking and baking.

Between us though we couldn't bear to part with them, as each one had a small hand written label on it saying what it contained.


The labels were written years ago by Mum ........ a feat in itself, as she really struggled to write at all ........ a consequence of suffering a massive stroke not long after I was born, which badly affected one side of her body.

Nevertheless, she battled through the pain and adversity of her life to give us all a wonderful home life and upbringing ..... bless her.


Those small, scratchily written labels on the cheap glass jars are, to us, priceless.


Its the small things that make the biggest impact don't you think .........

I never turn down a well-wish, Simon. Just recently was thinking about the golden moth episode we had and it was a wonderful remembrance to have.

I hadn't known of your mother's stroke after you were born - The emotions that evokes makes me want to have a lobotomy, or something, it is so painful.

I am going to remind myself every second of every day that Sean would want me to enjoy my life and be content.
