Yes, ordinary distractions like cleaning the oven come and go. Recurring symbols or images may reveal something..

In both instances the focus remains on your practice.

yes the grime was deep, I think it meant my oven needed cleaning but I aren't sure, or maybe it meant I should take a trip to Tibet and find a great master , to explain it hehe, just being silly really

Maybe it didn't mean anything and was just a mental distraction diverting you from your meditation. Its not necessary to try to find meanings to everything that pops up in ones mind.

A custard doughnut is spinning temptingly in my mind as I write this, lol, but I don't need a teacher to tell me to let it go and focus properly on what I'm doing!

That's correct. Theravada Buddhism teaches that visions are to be let go of. In other words, they are not to be attached to or given significance. They are not part of the path in that they generally do not lead to the purification of mind, but rather have a tendency to cause attachment, aversion, and/or delusion, depending on the nature of the vision and what significance is attached to it.

As another poster mentioned, perhaps there is a middle way here. It is certainly possible that the subconscious mind sends us messages via visions like the one you had. I wouldn't go looking for meaning. I'd take the experience for what it was, a temporary mental fabrication that doesn't necessarily have a deeper significance. If there is an important message underlying the vision, have faith that it will reveal itself when the time is right.

Interesting nonetheless :)
