Meditation: a contrary view
***
Let each time be like the first time
Rapturous in virgin astonishment
Each heartbeat a wake up chime
Wonderment nestled in contentment
Meditation is passé, being a ritualised doing, drawing in memory imagery of past experiences, thereby involuntarily causing us to anticipate and limit the trajectory of our attention flowing gently in dynamic stillness.
No doubt, we have all conjured techniques to rest lower mind. Yet, we feel drawn to ask ourselves in all honesty: ‘how free & unbound is our stillness and how pristine is our meditational attention?’
The question may be rephrased as: ‘who is the meditator, the limited doer, so mediating?’
Now, even in a programmed manner, sitting as quietly as we can manage, meditating in whatever manner we are comfortable with, it is not denied that we may get to tranquil calm, a feeling of inner peace, perhaps experience of both void & manifestation, divine energy within, interconnectedness & oneness as also joy & bliss. God is kind & encouraging!
Then, a plateau some call the dark night of the soul. No progress. We justify it by affirming that it is a time for assimilation, consolidation. Yes, it may be so. On the other hand, perhaps we may do well to look within for the answers. Even God helps only those who help themselves, is the old adage.
Getting to the root, we may begin by looking at the fulcrum as instinct, our innate ever present orientation, which we have chosen to prioritise. The key word here is ‘orientation’. How are we oriented? What is our core priority? What is the quality of our reflex response? We need to contemplate on this first because unless we are an alchemist, we cannot get gold from sand.
As the depth of meditation shifts imperceptibly into subtler layers, it seems undeniable that the sole attribute needed is purity of being. We cannot penetrate the void, so to speak, unless we vaporise lower mind completely.
To put it in a graphic & pictorial manner, we cannot enter the heart of God, unless we are empty within. For, we must enter His heart, no less!
It is clear that we cannot snap our fingers one morning and get to purity of being. We must be oriented as such by detoxifying our in-form consciousness. Completely.
Meditation then becomes our ever present orientation. There is no doer, only pristine, vibrant presence, awake in an unbroken continuum of astonishment & wonderment!
As we be, so we are
As we are, so we become
We be to become

Until we truly face ourselves warts and all the stagnation will continue.

Journeying within on a one way street
Song on our lips lightly move our feet
Bliss our companion who did us greet
Following the scent of love an easy feat
At the next bend let’s see who we meet!

Song on our lips
Without song in our heart
Sleight of feet won't do
Sniffing it or living it
Meet oneself, see the view
