Mantra Meaning

I have read that the Tibetan Buddhist Mantra is "OM MANI PADME HUM" also known as the mantra of compassion. By repetition of the mantra and meditation upon it does compassion flow forth?

Is the literal translation Hail. to the jewel in the lotus?

Hi Present,

The information at this link might be helpful.

In my personal opinion it takes more than the repetition of a mantra for genuine compassion to "flow forth".

with metta,

S.

Smile Links

Dear Samana,

Thank you for the links you have provided me. I find the first link especially helpful in answering my question on the meaning of "OM MANI PADME HUM". This is a very nice mantra that I often listen to before meditation. Usually, it is the Gayatri Mantra I recite.
