Ogham
Has anybody studied this Sacred Alphabet and used it for divination?
Where did you learn about it?
I haven't had a chance to study it, but my interest has been peaked and I wondered if anybody here is an expert on this?
Thanks,
Caramel

Hello
The Reiki Master Tearcher I had brought that to us when she was giving us our lessons. How she used it was to enter us into meditations as when spoken it has a wonderful flow to it.

Technically, it's not a sacred alphabet. It was used in early medieval Ireland to mark property stones or to deliver short messages. And there's no direct evidence that it was used as a form of divination. But, due to some accounts of Irish fili and druids who used markings etched into sticks or small staves for casting lots, many suspect that it might have been a form of the ogam. Many modern Neopagan and Celtic Reconstructionists have attempted to make a workable divinatory system around them, but much of it is guesswork and one's own personal mantic inspiration.
From what I've heard, Erynn Rowan Laurie's book Ogam: Weaving Word Wisdom is the foremost work that doesn't use the discounted Robert Graves idea that they were a tree based symbology, and tries to get back to what the letters stood for, and basing their divinatory meanings off of that.

Greetings CaramelDancer:
I would like to suggest a book by Horik Svensson entitled "Runes"--it gives great insight into the Nordic Runes, their meanings and assigned Numerology. The author (also) gives instruction on various forms of RuneCasting, Divination, and how to create a RuneCloth that suits your individual needs.
It has been an invaluable resource.
Peace and Love on your path to discovering the Mysteries...
Blessed be...

Greetings Everyone:
CarmelDancer--if you are interested in studying the Ogham as an Ancient System of Gaelic writing--then I have found an awesome site called omniglot.com--which might be of interest to you.
Years ago I ran across a book that presented the study of the Ogham as a Runic System of Divination--which led me to the Nordic System (perhaps) you are approaching it from a different field of study.
Peace and Love on the path of your choice...
Blessed be...

Thank you for the replies.~
You've given me lots to think about.
LadyTerra, I like omniglot.com, thank you. Yes I am a mixed breed and have gone deep into my Native American side but haven't delved too much into my Celtic roots, so that's inspiring me. That, and the Outlander series. :)
Thanks and blessings~
