What is Channelling?

Channeling is basically where an individual goes into a trance or a meditation and while they are in that state they allow an entity to use their body to communicate with us at our lower vibration. This is an easier way for the entity (usually a teacher type energy) to get our attention, or communicate with us than trying to speak to us through our imagination as many of us don't trust our own intuitive messages. The person channeling can let this entity come and go at will. There is no such thing as a spirit being able to take over a person in a way that they do not allow, no more than a hypnotist can control anyone realistically. When a clear channel prepares they ask for a higher energy spirit to enter and trust that this is what will happen. Usually, a channel will have one entity that they allow to use them as a vehicle to teach. When deciding on what channeled information to take or leave, one only needs to ask themselves if it rings true to them. If it does not, then they may hold it aside. If it does then it's important to let that information do the good that it is intended to do, meaning apply the knowledge to your life.
Not all channels are created equally. Some are able to move their ego aside more skillfully than others and thus are a more clear channel than others may be. This is also true for mediums. The issue lies in how you feel when you hear what they have to say. If it seems untrue or off after you've thought about what they said and tried to apply it to practical life, then you probably have found someone who has a dirty filter and has more ego energy than you do on a consistent basis. Clear channels are never completely clear as they are human but the good ones can tell you many fascinating things about the universe and the human condition. In this they are quite different from mediums. They can talk to your spirit guides as well as angels and higher forms of energy. I enjoy chatting with clear and heartful channels. It's a great spiritual study. Information from a channel should further you and human kind. It should be practical and make common sense. If it's hokey, too general, focuses on money (Abraham), teaches the law of attraction where you are here to get what you want in life, or makes you feel afraid or fearful for your soul, the world or for any other reason than you've found a dirty one that is full of ego. There are some very popular channels out there that are teaching goofy things that don't apply to life. You have to ask a lot of questions if you are interested in mediums and channels and always keep your critical side very open. This is what will keep you from getting sucked in to some very popular but very wrong information. Beware of what's popular even in the spiritual community. The world is still full of ego, even in these communities. When it comes down to it you can find a channel at any ego vibrational level. If you search with your heart's mind you will find a good one.

Channelling is the use your mediumship, we dont use this term. Mediumship is very broad with several different types and is the proper name to be used. Those who use channelling dont have the study or knowledge about this subject.
