You have beliefs in Buddha's teachings when you try them out yourself and realize that they work, then they become your beliefs.... Buddhism does not require blind faith.

Buddha kept a lot of his old beliefs ' Ancient Vedic ' but the ones that didn't work for him he dropped and found his new system.... that is why Hindus and Buddhist have some beliefs that are the same. It wasn't just throw out the old and bring in the new.
That sounds much like it it coming out of the recesses of your memory. Wonderful.
How did it get there?

I do believe we're getting off topic just a little bit.

No wonder the op hasn't been back...he's asking for a little guidance, and we give him an argument and tussle over semantics.

Sorry, vgemini!

I'm pretty sure you'll do fine, there's lots of books and info all over the place about Buddhism. Did I mention the book, Old Path White Clouds by Master Thich Nhat Hahn?

in regards to the original question.... I started reading tons of books. ordered a bunch off amazon and just surrounded myself with it. did some googling till I found a group that does dharma talks where I live and started attending those. and generally began to consciously attempt to go out into the world from a stance of emitting loving kindness to everything and everyone I crossed paths with. that alone had a hugely positive impact on me. I have chronic severe depression and borderline personality disorder, and simply offering out loving kindness instead of avoidance or hostility lowered my emotional baseline to a place where I've since been much more successful at keeping my cool and not lashing out at people who upset or anger me. I've done years and years of counselling and various therapies and groups and etc, and nothing has helped me the way studying buddhism has. it's truly been a blessing for me.

What we are witnessing here is very much indicative of the fruits of Buddhism.
It's what happens when a religion is based on words and text and scriptures.
People take those words as gospel and interpret them the way they want to. Many times insisting that others take them the same way.
The truth is, God will meet you on any road you take. God is with you always and God is good. Anything else is simply the absence of what is good. It is the absence of love and God is love.
I wish the op a wonderful journey on this new road that she has found. I trust that she will find what she is looking for and I know that God is with her always.
Blessings

Soz, no God in Buddhism.

Nice words, BlueSky, but I find some of it just confusing a little bit.
Some I agree. All religions are based on words and text and scriptures.
And I'm not sure you're dumping Buddhism into that - a religion, which it isn't
(I feel), but what else to call it, right. I get that, but don't agree that it is strictly
a religion.

You make it seem and sound easy to explain away what's in contention here.
I'm sure the op can figure out a thing or two, without further arguments.
Be well!

Why because you read that somewhere? That's kinda my point.
It's a religion and that is one of its beliefs...that's all.
