aspects of tao

tao te ching chapter 4

(this is my own translation, no copyright involved)

Tao is like an empty bowl
When it is being used it somehow lacks fullness.

It has such breadth!

It seems to be a model for the 10000 things.
It blunts what is sharp
It unties what is tangled
It harmonizes what is bright
It is being together with the dusty earth.

It has such depth!

It seems to somehow exist.
I have no knowledge of whose child it is
It appears to precede the emperors.

Love the imagery of the empty bowl. The Tao for me links with the What Is of Non-Duality. No description is good enough. It's here. It doesn't come from anywhere. It underlies all that appears. It is the One from which the many appear (the 1000 things). It animates the opposites but isn't the opposites. It is the harmony of the opposites, but beyond them.

I'm no expert on Taoism, so apologies if this is off track.

sorry i didn't answer sooner, well that was pretty good.... did you know everything has its own tao? Independent yet a part of the greater tao? And it isn't as obvious as people think how all of it goes together lol...

I have not heard that before. That would be a clear difference in Non-Duality understanding, unless the multiple Taos were not really multiple, but only seemed to be multiple, and the real or greater Tao was that in which they seem to play.

it has been made very difficult to see any difference between what things 'seem' to be and what they 'are'. Always we get stuck in our fantasies.... so for me, in a very real sense the difference between duality and non duality is only there because I want to perceive it. What things are beyond that, well, I'm getting very tired of guessing wrong lol!

The Dance of Non-Duality/Duality.

The Tao gave birth to One.

The One gave birth to Two.

The Two gave birth to Three.

The Three gave birth to all of creation.

All things carry Yin

yet embrace Yang.

They blend their life breaths

in order to produce harmony.

Just adding a Non-Duality view on Harmony here. Harmony is the original core quality of Oneness. Disharmony arises in the play of opposites. So I see Harmony as real and disharmony as unreal. Yet there is only the Real.
