Hey there. I am functioning again - but bedtime is my worst enemy as this is when the images will resurface. It's like my mind will not rest. I'm still new to meditation too and trying to get better at it which is hard when whenever I get a quiet moment my brain likes to remind me of awful things!
Thanks for asking :)

Let bedtime be your friend not your enemy. See it as a time to enhance your meditation skills and embrace your inner spirit. You have the ability to use those images to empower your inner self to make a difference. I have struggled with this over the years and now I am quite good at turning bad into good.

Oh geesh, that has happened to me on many occasions where you can't get the image out of your head and it makes you sick. I'm glad you spared us the details. I am sorry you had to see that and I hope the person/people who did this to the do get their due karma-and fast.

When I have those images pop back in the head, if I have the time and resources, I go on youtube and watch cute dog videos, or heart-warming rescue stories. That makes me remember that there are FAR more people that love animals in this world than ones that are cruel to them

It takes time to heal the wounds.. I once visited a concentration camp in Germany with school.. I've seen some very gruesome pictures there about how the camp guards would abuse the prisoners. Me and a lot of other guys were totally ruined the rest of the day! We would drink beer in the evening but we were all still too bewildered. Years later I would still have the occasional dream about the place. If the whole world would have seen it, and not just in some movie or documentary, things in the world would look different. A lot of people are ignorant, and that guy who abused the dog is no different. He'll get what's coming for him eventually.

A few months ago, activist James Aspey, addressed the daily horror and grief of vegans and especially for those who go undercover to get proof of violence. It made so much sense and I found it really helpful because like you, I often descend into the pit of despair because of the suffering everywhere. He said, 'instead of focussing on the pain and torment that you know the animals are living with (and that you can't stop for them this moment), think always of the fact that vegan numbers are growing massively'. He said, 'remember always, there are more vegans today, than there were last year, 10 years ago.'

I've read it called, 'the world's fastest growing social justice cause'. In the last two years, vegan numbers have apparently increased in the USA by 500-800% depending on which poll you look at. According to Forbes magazine, 'vegan foods' sales have grown by 8.1% in the last year alone.

The meat and dairy producers are worried so you and I are having an impact and the beneficiaries are the hapless animals that today we can only grieve for. The progress is a lot slower than any of us would like to see, but it is happening.

So take heart, be strong and be sure to eat healthy for the sake of the animals. I make a point of eating really well because I want to be a 'poster-child' for healthy vegan eating at any age. That could be your contribution too and it's an important one. Good examples are an encouragement to others to give it a shot.
