shiatzu and emotions - a question

i received a shiatzu massage today for the 2nd time.
the first time was very nice and made me feel very good.
i went to get a message as i have strong pains in my upper back and neck. and this was what the therapist was to work on as far as i know.
my question is: can it also intentionally or unintentionally release emotions? ever since i got the message i had a strong need to cry and my day turned into an emotional mess up to an anxiety attack - can it be as a side affect of the treatment?
and if so what am i to do now to return to somekind of balance so i will be able to function???

I think it could definitely bring up emotions for release. The body is full of energy lines and points - so it makes sense to me.

Try a meditation and visualize yourself in a calm place, do some deep breathing and remind yourself that it's okay to feel what you're feeling. I think the key might be in not fighting it but just accepting it and letting it go gently, if you can.

I find that I always cry easily if the emotion is there right on the edge and I sing - sounds weird I know, but you might try just humming quietly to yourself, anything to get the air moving through your throat.

I have had one shiatsu treatment. I still don't know that much about it but my thoughts would be that it has helped with blockages thus releasing any negative feelings but for you they all came out in that one day, which isn't bad. They may have been suppressed and it was essential for you to experience them properly to let go of them.

I'm pretty sure that releasing them will ensure a balance. Just tell yourself you have experienced them, released them and now you are free of them.

I qualified as a Shiatsu Practioner several years ago though I tend to work on animals more than humans. In answer to your question. Yes, Shiatsu can release other emotions as well as work with physical pain. It's quite an in depth subject but I'll try to briefly explain how it works.

Often a lot of emotions and underlying problems are caught together and can manifest as sore areas on specific points of a body. These over time can build up to cause discomfort and physical pain. As in the pain you felt in your upper back and neck. We each individually have specific points where we store this, and it can coincide with a point of a past or on going injury.

Shiatsu works on the meridian lines and acupressure points within the body and as the points are worked on and the blockages that cause the discomfort are released very often you will get a release of emotions as well. This is the whole part of the healing both the physical and emotional and can take a few days to surface and clear properly. Shiatsu is about returning the body to its natural balance.

I hope this helps you some. Just go easy on yourself until this naturally passes.

thanks Makoiyi

i'm about to have my next shiatsu session next week, and i must admit i have some anxiety from it, i fear the emotions, not sure if i'm strong enough to deal with it, and not sure it there be someone to catch me when i fall. but i know also i can't run away from it forever, in away i can't run away from anything any more.

oh how i wish there was an easy way to make all the wrong right.

The first time I received a shiatsu session, I felt an overwhelming rush of emotion! I've never felt anything quite like it. My head and body felt light, and I wanted to burst into tears (as I tend to do quite easily).

I think it's important to feel as ease during each session, and to trust your therapist. Shiatsu is a practice used to release tension and anxiety, so if you are feeling anxious about it and unable to release your emotions, perhaps that is something you could work on.
And if you continue to struggle, perhaps shiatsu just isn't for you.

Do not feel as though you have to force or hold in any emotion; just be natural and enjoy yourself!

Well said..

Well said. I love your response to questions. I also use Shiatsu in my therapies along with our device.
