This morning I was having a terrible argument with I AM in my head...I have calmed down a bit since then.

I tend to see both God and I as two separate things....it kind of causes great polarization in my head.

Hello and hope my contribution is relevant here. I recognize the entire field of spiritual growth and inspiration as separate from my ego which I consider to be a conglomeration of appetites and emotions. One is automatic (the ego) and the other I have to reach for and remind myself of all that I’ve learned. This duality is what I call my relationship to God and what I long for is an automatic referral to Him in all things and at all times, and eventually to reside in Him entirely with my ego functioning as a distant planet that doesnt effect me anymore. Of course I am light years away from this goal.

I, I AM, God....it is a complete muddle in my head. I tend not to see I AM as God.

So it sounds like there's 3 separate things. The I and the I AM were arguing. Could that be classed as the ego/personality and the higher self.
