To Late To Love ?

Has the least of the breathren come to our house lately? Have we unknowingly turned away Angels? Would we be shocked if we asked the Lord, when did we see you hungry? and He replied when I was disheveled ,dirty, downtrodden, and knocking at the doors of your Church?

I still marvel, as I think of visiting my Grandmother in the retirement home before she died, watching two elderly women across the hall in wheelchairs. One suffering, crying out loud, tears streaming down her face, "I want to go home! " , The other woman, with a look of compassion on her face, handing her the little stuffed animal she was cradeling in her arms, soothing and comforting her.......can we ever be retired from loving one another?

Do we really know what the end result of our charitable donations produces in the north state community? Oh we are a very loving and caring community, but do we "test the fruits"? I challange you to visit your favorite charity, and see the "end results".

How many of the "least of the brethren" are living in cars? under bridges? dying from cold, hunger, poverty, and sickness in camps along the Sacramento river and we never hear about it on the local news or the paper?

So let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not loose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those of the household of faith.............even if they are.........the least of the brethren.

Dear RLF:

Very wise and well put piece. The true test of any "charity" besides offering something needed immediately, such as a meal, a few bucks, etc would be (long) term to make that person as strong, wise, confident and self sufficient as possible...Kind of like the give a person a fish, or teach them how to fish for a lifetime deal. The problem with most of this stuff is that all establishments want to "survive" and in the fear of doing so they've created co-dependence rather than giving individuals the strength to become independent...Kind of silly, there will always be a need to help out, just do it in a way that fosters an individual, or a group of people to become masters of their own universe...

Brilliant post RLF!!
Thats the truth of it. How many hours do we spend on this site and on the internet, chatting, exchanging nice ideas. Listening to interesting concepts.
Sai Baba an indian saint/avatar says that `Hands that help are holier than hands that pray` and I think he is right.
Find something that helps, no one can help everywhere, just pick one thing and focus on it. Lets all get our hands a bit dirtier!!!

something else to think about though

how many times have you been praised by someone for doing a good turn without even realising that you have?.. even the simplest thing can bring salvation to someone.. a smile, a touch, a soothing voice.. even just simple silence can be gestured as a good deed to someone in need of company or the sence of not being alone..
