Not Zen, but does it make it any different if a Buddhist wants to worship or believe in a deity? I wasn't aware that Buddhists have to follow a strict atheism..

Right, but Buddhists also know that ultimately the deity is empty and void, has no essence and no permanence.

in reference to the `god` /deity debate going on within this, i am going to ignore it, I too know many buddhists who believe in god, and believe siddartha did too. That aside as far as the karma question is concerned, `small` unskillfull karma can be paid off by spiritual practice and offering it up. The bigger serious stuff cant, and will return, but its ok, because it will be woven into your path. The importnat thing for us all is to use our understanding of karma to live more skillfully.

How they view themselves, how they view the world, which in turn influences how they act. But, bad experiences shouldn't be viewed with resentment, but embraced, for only in experiencing can something truly be learnt.

The only thing I have learned is that I do not want to go through the same experiences for a long time if possible...

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny."

Karma does what it wants when it wants, we have no say or knowledge in the matter what-so-ever.
To "escape" karma would be like trying to sit in a field and avoid an oncoming flood....it just doesn't work.
