Quite a few of my crystals were bought off of ebay. If you're a little unsure as to what you're buying, I highly recommend researching the seller. Most reputable sellers will have a bunch of positive reviews. :)

I, too have bought many crystals from ebay sellers. As LavenderMoon says, I also always research the seller.

Also research the crystal you are thinking of buying: what it looks like raw or polished, how big are the pieces on average, how much does it sell for on other sites, compare different sellers' prices and specimens on ebay. Also, a bit of research will tell you if there are any other names the crystal goes by, and variant spellings: different sellers can sell the same stone under different names.

There are definitely reputable sellers out there, you just have to be careful.

Most of my collection has com from eBay. If you know what stone you are looking for, then use the search function such as, peridot rough, peridot tumbled, peridot jewelry, etc. This should get you comparing apples to apples and you will get a good idea of the general price of what you are looking for. You can research the sellers feedback history to see if he is reputable. When pricing the items you are interested in, be sure to note if shipping is included. Also consider if buying from China, Hong Kong, and India, that shipping will take close to 30 days for it to arrive. I would probably only buy Moldavite from a Czech seller as that is where it comes from. I wouldn't buy any turquoise unless it indicates it is very old stock. Most of the turquoise is fake, either a resin, or howlite or magnesite that has been dyed. Look at the number of feedback a seller has. When you start getting in the thousands, these sellers have been doing this for several years, and they won't want to jeopardize their reputation just to cheat somebody. If you are unhappy with what was sold to you, email the seller, most sellers will try to make you happy versus receiving negative feedback from you. Good luck in your search.

I'm going to give ebay a try - have bought from amazon and they're okay most of the time. Like rottweiler says it helps to know what you're looking for.

Agree with all of the above, definitely look into what you are buying, for what purpose and how you will be using it. Again in agreement, all of the good sellers will have positive feedback.

Personally, I like to be drawn to crystals which I feel I cannot do though the internet. I will walk around a location until something calls out to me, usually then I know it something I need to have for at least that moment in time.

However, Each to their own. Right? :)

I have bought quite a lot of crystals from Ebay, but the last two times I was conned.
The ruby wasn't a ruby, I put it in water and it turned a dark red, so it was a dyed crystal. I did get my money back (in that sense Ebay is good!)

Last time was my black obsidian raven. That was a month ago. A large raven skull. I loved it. Put it in water, and the day after when I took it out, I noticed weird white/greyish smudges at the bottom. Meaning it ain't black obsidian, which is basically vulcanic glass. Black glass is black, period. So again I have been conned. Not a clue what the raven is made of.
I did get my money back, but I am very disappointed nonetheless.

I don't think I will easily buy from Ebay again ... Twice in less than half a year time... not good. And in both cases the seller did have very good ratings.
