Talmud

Is the talmud used today, and if it is in what aspects.. I know it is the holiest or one of the holiest books. There are many questions I have about it.

The answer to your first question is "Yes."

As for the rest, how many years do you have?

Well namek, if you're serious about learning then I'd highly recommend going to talk with a local orthodox rabbi and seeing what opportunities there are in your area. Usually there are some free open lectures at your local synagogue that you can attend and rabbis are generally open to talk to and answer questions without being pushy or anything. If you don't feel comfortable doing that then i'll answer any questions you have.

As far as how it is being USED, around the world Jews still follow talmudic law as far as they can. When it comes to rituals and kosher law they are followed as best as they can. When it comes to financial law disputes between Jews are generally settled privately by a 'Dayan' or jewish judge following talmudic law. Certain things, like how to appoint a king, can't be followed nowadays and so those teachings are currently only academic. There are also a great many parables and philosophical teachings.
