Totemism question

Hi, I have a question or two about power animals. I know the raven is a special animal in many native American traditions and they are even mentioned in the Bible by Jesus in a positive light. The thing is I really don't like them. They seem to be aggressive scavengers and they seem to propagate and take over certain localities. Clearly raven is not my power animal or is there more to it? Could I have some internal resistance or something that prevents me from seeing the raven's more noble qualities. A blockage that fires up a sense of discrimination in order to prevent a deeper knowledge of self. I am perturbed that I have such a strong dislike to an animal that so many others hold in high esteem. Or is it just a matter of me being somewhere on the other side of the spectrum of animal energies and thus just feel no connection to them?

assuming that ravens are not my power animal, how do I find out what is? I've read articles that tell me sense which animals I have an affinity for but I never get a strong clear signal. I really love nature and have a great respect for most animals (except sharks, snakes, ravens, spiders, hyenas and crocodiles). I feel very positive towards dolphins (but who doesn't), cats (more than dogs), birds of pray (kites, hawks etc.), seals, big cats (but not lions) lizards, geckos, rock hyraxes, cows and goats. Should I be looking at animals that I admire or exploring similarities I might have in common such as habits, build and talents?

I would appreciate if anyone could help me out. I would like to get a better sense of self so that I'll have more to work with in Buddhist meditation...

I guess through meditation. I am under the belief that you ask to have your spirit animal come to you. I have tried, but am unable to go that deep in my meditation. Although, after the meditation, I have had pretty strong animal response the following day,which was very fun and amusing, and , haven't followed through with finding what my animal guide is. Don't forget that certain animal guides will come into your life to teach us a lesson or give us a message, then be gone and off. Good luck in finding your guide. I often think about trying again. Let us know how you do.
And maybe try pinpointing more of an animal that you relate to or are fascinated with.

Thanks b-bird, I can't go that deep in meditation either so I guess I'm using my mind to try figure it out. I guess I should let it go and invite my power animal to me..

I never invited my visiting animal, nor did I seek to try and invoke a particular animal or creature....what I think is that when your energy is strong enough and the need arises, your subconscious will forge the right energy animal for you which will do the job it was tailored for, and when it has done what it has to do you may never see it again...or you may get a few visits.

redstone, you say "visiting" animal. Is this the one you were born with? I have read certain animals will come to you for certain lessons in life, then when that lesson is over the animal leaves. Do you know your power animal?

the animal only appeared within a short space of time on and off over a few weeks...I have no awareness or idea if I was born with it or not, all I know was it was there for that short period of time and has not appeared since....but you never forget it I can tell you...I was doing a lot of qi gong and I know it was connected with this energy as it had a direct effect on it when I had contact with it...it actually moved it through my system.

I think the mind knew on a very primitive level what it needed to do and forged the animal that would do what it needed to do....specific animals that other people may see may well have a different purpose....I'm pretty sure anyone who was sensitive and saw what I saw and felt would have freaked out.
