We all take in way more information than we keep in our conscious minds. By asking, it's like hitting the 'search' button on Google.

The pendulum is one of the clearest methods because it is all yes/no, this or that. Tarot cards can get very complicated but I believe they work the same way.

Ah, now you are asking a different question ! It all depends on your definition of "magic".
Another looooong explanation coming up. First off, forget all the hoopla about supernatural - no such thing as "supernatural" [super meaning above, beyond, etc]. There is nothing above or beyond nature i.e. the universe.
"Magic" relies on the control, manipulation, and direction of natural Earth energies. The trick lies in learning to use your own mind as a connection device - think of your mind as the fuse in the plug !
An essential is a Quiet Mind which requires expertise in meditation. If you have the Quiet Mind, you will be able to focus your Will and Intent and Direction to achieve what it is you hope to achieve. Don't expect to "get" this by simply downloading a book of "spells" or chanting something or other - took me decades to achieve this.

Simple "Magic spell" - wishing a nice day on someone. Now wish it again with the full force of your Quiet, Coherent Mind behind the wish. Shimple !

"Wonderful day" - another different question . Wonderful day to me is walking the beach or the moors or the dales, so every day is wonderful ESPECIALLY now we have the first snows on the moors - all the tourists have gone, leaving the silent moors to those of us who truly appreciate them.
Formal spells are really just memory-joggers to get your mind into "the groove". Books of spells are just other people's memory joggers and since "they" are not you, then ............. Get my drift ?
My spells, such as they are, tend to be physical objects which have significant meanings - things like feathers, pine cones, pebbles, etc. Things I pick up on my ramblings. Photographs work too. To anybody else, they would be meaningless junk and that's how it should be. No short-cuts I'm afraid.
