Ocular Migraines
My SO gets them a couple times a year out of the blue. If anyone knows much on them I'd love to know. Physical reasons, but also metaphysical? Maybe i'll post another thread like this in spiritual development...
Thank you!

my guess is that it could be a symptom of stress... trying to "see" something
with great intensity of effort; analyzing situations incessantly. it's like straining
to open the 3rd eye chakra. [maybe]

My daughter has gotten migraines since she was a little kid. Excitement can bring them on or nothing can bring them on. Never seemed to be a food connection either and we had her tested where they put electrodes on her scalp to monitor brain activity and nothing popped out as a probably cause. She's 37 now and she still gets them and very frequently. At least once a week. I don't think they really know why some people get migraines.
I hope your friend isn't too debilitated and that they don't get to be more than a couple times a year.

Barometric pressure changes trigger them for me, I hadn't had one with the aura in nearly a decade but this year the storms have been big and sudden.

My daughter is affected by the air pressure too over the last few years. Between January and end of March, she'll end up in the emergency ward at least once because the pain from her head is so dire! Lately even the Imitrex (?) isn't helping with some of them. I sure feel bad for you migraine sufferers.
