Hello,

I have been struggling with anxiety for a big part of my life, ever since I was a kid. It felt like I tried everything. Affirmations made things worse because they made me think about anxiety even more, it's a vicious circle with this illness.
Amethyst8086 has good suggestions though, if you focus on feeling safe and calm instead of NOT feeling anxious this could actually do the trick.
I don't mean to shamelessly self-promote but I have a post about anxiety on my blog in which I list all of the things that actually helped, out of hundreds that I tried. It's quite long so I won't paste it here, but here it is if you're interested: http://www.nellienutter.com/life/reduce-anxiety/

I'm currently pretty much anxiety free so I know that it can be done. Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Nellie-

Thanks so much for sharing! So happy to hear that you're anxiety free for the most part.

I agree with your article on your site. Chamomile is a wonderful tea...I also love Passion Flower. It really helps me. I also agree with you that people down play Chamomile because it's so common. Chamomile is always a go to for me too. =)

I am also very much into the Law of Attraction and follow Esther Hicks! She says that basically if you have a thought that you don't like or is going to take you into a spiral of anxiety, you have 17 seconds to change that thought to something else. At first I thought that was crazy, but honestly I see the truth in it. Whenever you have a bad worrisome thought, try to change your thought within 17 seconds. If you don't change that thought before the 17 seconds is up, then you attract another bad worrisome thought and it's a seemingly never ending cycle. This really helps, and kind of goes along with your distracting your mind point you mentioned on your site.

Hope you're having a beautiful day!

Thank you so much for taking your time to read my article! I'm glad you agree with some of my techniques and I'm really hoping that it will help someone someday. Anxiety is no fun.

I listen to Ester Hicks sometimes but I've never heard about this 17 second rule! It's really interesting and makes perfect sense since bad thoughts attract each other and it's a downward spiral. If I come up with more techniques I'll include it in part two of this list. I'd like to come up with as many solutions as I can so that different people could benefit from it.

I'm sending you my best thoughts and best wishes :)

You are everywhere. Lord....You surround me in and out...
You only want my good...I will continue to smile and know that You are
guiding my every thought to turn left or turn right...and I will always forever
know You are what I depend on ...because of You I am free...burdenless...powerful and clear.
You are my everything and I will always stand under Your umbrella of safety, condfidence and peace...

One practice that helped me greatly was using my senses...in that panicky moment, look around and name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear ( birds chirping, phone ringing), 2 things you can smell ( a flower, fresh cut grass, garbage truck that drove by...whatever) and 1 thing you can taste ( what you last ate, a pastry in a bakery in your view...anything). Engaging all the senses grounds you in a way. Also, check out your adrenal glands...they may be stuck on overdrive/ constant flight or fight. I take vitamins for that now and it helped tremendously.

I AM at peace.

And, don't just say the affirmation; intone it, vibrate it. You should feel the words resounding through your body.

This one worked very well for me when I was struggling with anxiety.

I used to affirm "I am safe and protected - I am safe to be (me)" as well... that affirmation was useful as well as your above suggestion.

I am struggling horribly with always catastrophizing things in my mind.
I am aware that my thought patterns are irrational and that I'm overthinking everything and its all in my own brain, but I still feel fearful, feel tightness in the chest and am holding back tears due to my panicky and irrational thoughts.
I seem to find it harder than others to stay calm and chilled.

If anyone has any good affirmations i can use i would appreciate it very much.
Thanks for your time.

Yes, everyday, look your~self the eyes, in a mirror, and say, "I LOVE MY~SELF".

Try it, and feel patience, and you will 'see' ~ all the best

Hello,

How about "I am calm and at peace in my mind".
