The root chakra is located at the base of the spine.

I have the same condition as you do. As a child and teen, my upper posture wasn't very strong and I had an upper slouch (gave me headaches for a long time). With help from a chiropractor, I realized the headaches were from muscle tension in my upper back. Posture is key and chakra work is a great way to adjust posture. Chakra is energy work => the energy is centered along the spine => the energy can be used to stretch and lengthen the spine. The most important chakras, in my opinion, is the #1 the heart chakra (bad upper chest posture literally strangles the heart chakra), then the throat and crown. Physically relating to posture, an open heart is the chest lifted and forward with the shoulders down and back. Yoga has many exercises that open the chest in this way. You want to make sure you have your crown open (physically related to posture, this means your head is lifting with the help of the throat chakra). Breathing is also key. While maintaining an open posture, take a full breath, filling the chest. With practice, your chest will expand more and more (make sure you expand the chest in all directions; sides, front, back and upward). Only expanding the chest forward can be counter productive. When you get good at expanding the chest with the breath, you will feel a stretching of the spine (as well as stretching in the chest). The spine stretch is the greatest thing when you have spinal pains (unrelated to physical injury). Many guides will discuss lengthening the spine with the breath because this is very important. The breath gives us oxygen => oxygen gives us energy => energy is needed to maintain proper spinal posture. As you get really good with the chakra energy in the chest and up, simply energizing these areas will realign the spine (cracking the spine the spine into alignment and it feels really really good).

Make sure to incorporate everything together because only doing shoulders down and back, for example, without lifting the chest and crown, can increase back pain (I've experienced this myself)

Think about it this way. Muscle tension is energy that is located off center in your muscles. Chakra work centers that energy, allowing the back muscles to realax.
