My sense is that the "Pure/Still" mind can operate on many levels of consciousness, as I believe that you were implying.

My favorite definition of meditation, as gleaned from Nisargadatta Maharaj's sayings, is that "Meditation is the art of shifting attention to subtler and subtler levels of consciousness WITHOUT LOSING A GRIP ON THE LEVELS LEFT BEHIND". One should thus be able to focus on any level of consciousness up to and including where one is at.

Well I do see the different levels on my staircase, I focus on the level my feet are on acknowledging the one's I've left behind.

They said to him, "What is the place to which we are going?"
The Lord said, "Stand in the place you can reach!"

Mary's vision then is supposed to be normal, how its supposed to be

When one's heart is pure, one's consciousness expands and consequently "the place you can reach" is similarly expanded.

Thank you for the kind words but, as you know, I give credit to Nisargadatta for the definition of meditation that I now use as my standard.

"Meditation is the art of shifting attention to subtler and subtler levels of consciousness without losing a grip on those levels left behind."
