I tend to get these usually around the same time at night 1:30-3:30. I experienced a kundalini awakening months back, so its possible. Two weeks ago I had 2 nights where I needed to change my boxers the sweating was so bad.

Oh wow, no, intense sweating for me, that was not an issue for me at all. Although, I was running/training at the time when I was under Kunalini influence, I could have disposed of that energy during running. I sweat a great deal when I run :P I remember being dehydrated and thirsty A LOT. Lots of body heat being generated but I lived in a very cold climate at the time. Coldest in the nation sometimes. I wonder if climate has any direct or indirect influence to the body during a Kundalini periods. I live in Florida now were there are super hot temperatures, wondering if the climate would made my experience different. So many questions! You would think I would have done more research. I think the phenomena was too intense for me, I would rather not re live it again.

It's definitely not a fun feeling to wake up in a puddle of sweat. Oddly enough my body for the past 2 months has been in overdrive sweating no matter how much exercise I put in. If i get a shower, my sweat glands dont stop for two hours. I've tried taking a cold shower near the end, but it's just how I'm wired for now I suppose. Being in the mid atlantic of the US, I'd end up with the same thing when the weather changed from fall to winter and my body hadn't switched over yet. But we're now in February and it's still going, the good thing is I don't smell, as its all just water

Oh mt gosh, your amount of sweat seems incredibly intense, how does your wife stand you? Maybe you need to incorporate exercise?

Cold showers work very, especially cooling down the chakra areas !

LOL, She's seen it for years, like I said, I'm fortunate to not have BO. And I am exercising more than I did even in my teens or early 20's, although I truly hate the treadmill, and will gladly lift weights over that awful machine :)

I've tried just about everything, but in the end I just gave up and I'm now taking Phenergan (Promethazine) as an anti cholinergic agent. It is doing the trick nicely.

Okay...I don't get night sweats any more and haven't had them for years, but something else has started happening which is a sudden development, and I don't understand it.
It's really cold weather here, powder snow in the air, but no snow on the ground yet, so of course I'm wearing winter gear (as I usually do in cold weather, so that's no different)
So when I go for a walk I have only gone one mile and I start to overheat and can feel my clothes sticking to me. I have to sometimes take off my jacket and scarf, and blow inside the front of my sweater to get cooler!
Today I took the whole lot off and could feel how biting the wind was but I had to do something to cool down a little.
At the end of the second mile (I had to walk across country to get to a village store) -I was soaking wet.
Bad idea in bitter cold weather....
So I put everything back on again and was icy cold plus too hot both at the same time!
When I got home my underclothes were soaked through. My top and sweater were damp too. But I felt strong, well, healthy...
I had to shower and change everything for dry clothes.
The sweat smelled sweet. Not unpleasant at all. Now I sniff my dried clothes which got soaked on my walk, and they smell fresh like the laundry powder I use....weird.
This hasn't just happened once. It's been happening for 2 weeks or so.
I have no illnesses, no conditions, am healthy, am not menopausal any longer (by 10 years!) I eat healthily lots of good balanced veggie food, drink plenty of water....Have no other symptoms. Oh and my thyroid is fine.
I do get extra thirsty after that has happened, like tonight. I drank water to make up for it.
What the heck is it?

I'm a hunter(some are surely against it but I use what I take and always thank the Earth for providing). Anyway,I found out years back that the only way to hike in the winter is to strip down to just a long shirt, tie your jacket around your waist. The worst thing you can do is soak yourself with sweat, especially if you plan to stop and sit for a period of time. I definitely haven't had the sweetness smell on those trips though

Similar to what Wanchain was saying, a Taoist might attribute night sweats to overactive yang, or yin deficiency. A very general way of saying you need to balance your internal energies out in some way. There are a lot of different ways to do that -- meditating to calm the body/mind and lead it in the yin direction; not eating too late at night, and not eating too much for dinner; not exercising too late; not looking at computer or phone screens too close to sleeping; etc. There are also concepts like exercising earlier in the day can increase one's yang energy, encouraging the body to naturally balance itself out later in the evening by making the transition to a yin state more fully.
