I suppose a psychopomp experience goes here..

Been away for a bit, but I thought I'd share an eventful evening... ever heard of a psychopomp? I know a woman who has done that on numerous occasions. She said she does it every several months.

About 2 or so months ago I had my first psychopomp experience... or at least that what it seemed like to me. I partly woke up about 3:00 AM and I saw a large shadow up on the wall of my bedroom. I knew it simply needed something, so I closed my eyes and asked what it needed.

I found myself in the air near a balcony of a high-rise, concrete apartment building. There was a spirit on the balcony who was confused. He didn't know where to go. He wasn't sure where he should go. I held him and "flew" him down towards the ground, away from the high-rise, and towards the rural, wooded, area. As we reached the wooded area, he suddenly "knew" where to go. Then he was gone and I was alone. I then returned to my bed.

What I understood was that this was the spirit of an old man (in Asia, I think, probably China) who, when he was very old, had moved with his family to a large city high-rise from a rural area. When he passed away, he was confused being in the city. He needed someone to help find with the crossing. I simply helped with that. From what I understand, that's what a psychopomp does... that's the sort of experience my friend described too.

Well, that's it.

Thats really fascinating. I have never heard that term before and had to go google it to understand it better.

I was wondering how you do something like that. Does another spirit take your place in your body temporarily while you escort this spirit where they want to go, or do you just leave your body on your own?

I can't really say why it happened. When I saw the shadow on the way, I just knew it needed something so I closed my eyes and asked what it needed. Then I was there helping the spirit cross.

For me, the best way to describe it is that is was like a shamanic journey.

I've heard of similar experiences being referred to as retrievals. Robert Monroe writes about this in his books. I think it's the same thing as what you are talking about here. It happens to people who astral project regularly, but I haven't experienced one before.

This was an out-of-body-experience...We all have them... Monroe "did" speak about these rescues aka retrievals..... I have never heard of this term either tho....It is simply rescue work, as I understand it....

I think you thought I meant that I haven't had an astral projection. No, I've had plenty. What I meant is that I've had plenty of astral projections, but haven't experienced a retrieval yet.

I do shamanic work, and I understand what a retrieval is. This didn't feel like a retrieval. It was something different.

Imagine being on the ground at the door to a bus that has just stopped and helping a person step off the bus.
