Gratitude

I like this quote from Ajahn Buddhadasa about gratitude:

".... we may take an even humbler virtue, that of gratitude. With just this one virtue, the world could be at peace. We must recognize that every person in the world is the benefactor of everyone else. Never mind people; even cats and dogs are benefactors of humanity, even sparrows. If we are aware of our debt of gratitude to these things, we will be unable to act in any way that harms or oppresses them. With the power of this one virtue of gratitude, we can help the world."

Hello Samana and all...

If you would be so kind as to indulge me I would like to jump in on this thread as I note the other buddhism threads have not been posted on for some time...so...

For those that are not familiar with the buddha and the ism of buddhism I describe it as similar to a cooking recipe for example having lived in India I could tell you to put in garlic onion tumeric spice but unless you know how much garlic how much tumeric etc your dinner would not be any good you need specifics 6 cloves garlic 1 onion quarter tsp tumeric as it is strong medicine you don't need much etc etc and the technique you need what sort of pan how much heat how long to cook how long to let the meal rest before serving etc etc....

well this is what the ism of buddhism is it is the how to recipe on how to become a buddha and become self realised and attain enlightenment...

so... a brief part of the recipe is following...

there are six things you must perfect
giving, morality, patience, energy, meditation and wisdom

then there are the six actions to do
generosity, ethics, patience, enthusiastic perseverance (my favourite), concentration and wisdom

so that is a condensed explanation and the dish that you cook up with this recipe is the peace of enlightenment...!

I would like to finish with "SELF REALIZATION"... the Buddha himself became "realized" and passed the message to us believe nothing even what I have told you until you realize it for yourself....!!!

well there you are this is posted with no expectation or attachment and just is what it is....
