My own view is as follows ...

Our consciousness is rooted in the self serving external domain. The domain, also called as the ego domain is ephemeral and cyclic. It is externalised.

The internal world is Universe connected, divine connected and is eternal. This is the internal world, the reality, imperceptible initially because our senses in the body are externalised.

With this understanding, we need to self realise voluntarily ... totally and absolutely voluntarily, that we choose to prioritise the internal life rather than the external one in search of joy. Permanent joy. Bliss.

This is not to say that we renounce the external world. Not at all! Have fun! Engage. But we should be observed like, always aware that it is an experience. There must be no addiction, no attachment. No attachment means, no fear, no desire.

The reason why this preamble is necessary is because the ego, senses, thought ... all that when we are a doer, is limited. We cannot hope to access the infinite by using instruments with a range finite. Secondly, if we are consumed with fear & desire, fraught with regrets of the past or anxiety about the future, thoughts always in motion, turbid, chaotic motion mostly, then there is no space available within us to embrace the divine energy.

Hence inner cleansing. By continuous contemplative consciousness correction. Step by step. Erase negativity. Greed, lust, envy, hate, anger, escapism, apathy, untruthfulness, deceit .... all must go ... reduce & erase effortlessly by knowing that we are not these aspects.

After all this is done ... let it take as long as it takes, meditation can begin.

Now with ego reduced (it does not go away entirely) we can choose our thoughts. These range from the low frequency Tamas, to the action oriented Rajas to the meditative Satva. You can read about these Gunas on the Internet. Choose Satvik thoughts more often than others. Self assess daily.

So, now, we have emptied our toxins and raise the thought frequency, closer to the pulsation of the divine energy. Meditation now, is automatic in that we shift our intuitive attention inwards, in a continuum of free flowing present moments, in an orientation of childlike trust and without anticipating any outcome and retain our attention thus, for as long as we are able. That’s all. The stillness, the silence within, where our presence without the self as we knew it, becomes a magnetic field, which draws the divine energy within. We do nothing, for we are not. The divine acts as the transmitter. We are the open and willing receptor, resonating at the frequency of the divine ... or nearer to it, in as much as we are able. We simply allow ... plunging into the current, without hesitation, without offering resistance.

Where we go from here is an individual journey. Whatever be the path, the divine love will envelop us. Automatically.

Which leads to the Q: Where does 'divine' love then go?IOW, Why aim to 'meditate' in the first place?

Surely, to the goal (or purpose) of incarnational experience isn't just to get to the point where (just) 'automatically' orgasm with/in 'divine' love, which is another way of saying, where we just 'get off' on sucking divinity's 'teat'.
