Book1 Scientists for the first time filmed the formation of the black hole jet

When another bad star hits the black hole, then not all of its matter and energy is sucked in. Sometimes giant plasma jets (jets, or relativistic jets) break out from the center of the black hole, and scientists first got an image of the formation and expansion of this structure. Astronomers shared their observations in the journal Science.

At the center of the event is a clash of two galaxies. The galactic mash was called Arp 299 and occurs almost 150 million light years from us. In the center of each of the galaxies is a supermassive black hole.

Using radio and infrared telescopes, astronomers conducted the observation of the star by mass about twice as large as our luminary. On her trouble, she was too close to one of the supermassive black holes, whose mass is estimated by researchers about 20 million times the mass of our Sun.

The poor star had no chance - a black hole tore it to shreds, but, as it turned out, the story of the luminary did not end there. There was a rather rare event - the release of the jet. For scientists this was the first opportunity to observe the phenomenon "in real time".

"We have never observed the formation and development of the jet directly," commented astronomer Miguel Perez-Torres of the Institute of Astrophysics in Andalusia (Granada, Spain).
