A russian family who were cut off from all human contact for 40 years in the Siberian wilderness. They were completely anaware that WWII has occured.

There was a Japanese soldier found on a deserted island off Japan a few years ago who was still defending his post. He didn't know WWII had ended either until he jumped out at some tourists with his gun.
And there was another Japanese guy (not the same one) who ran off to a deserted island to escape society. He was thought missing for about 35 years until his son tracked him down. He refused to return to the mainland and died a few years later.
