When I was in my teens my mother said that playing cards were the devil's cards. Today she uses tarot cards. People can change their minds! I'm sure your mother will too at some point.

i purchased a shirt with The High Priestess on it, which originally led to my interest in Tarot. i looked up the meaning and thought it was so amazing that i shared it with my mom. i also shared with her the great and lessons comforting lessons ive gotten from my cards. she still doesnt know what to think about it, but at least she's seeing the positive influences.

If you are a minor and living under your mum's roof and she is uncomfortable with them in her home. Then simply keep them somewhere else. Some Christians you can talk to until the cows come home and your blue in the face and there still not going to understand or even listen.

Cards, Tarot, etc, all these things are tools. Many Christians feel that in using these tools it can be dangerous because it's possible to get way-laid by other things, curiosity, powers, glamours etc etc, which might lead a seeker away from Spiritual truth. So as a result anything even vaguely "Occult" is viewed with deep suspicion. (Occult really means "hidden")
True, there can be some casualties, but that always depends on the person using the tools, not the tools themselves.
It's the Spiritual intent that counts, and what the seeker is trying to create or discover with these tools. And the Heart of the seeker. If you're unsure, and you are Christian yourself, pray alone in a Church, for guidance. You will be shown what to do and what not to do, but keep your intuition sharp.
Take the idea, and imagine using the cards, when you pray. Then listen very carefully, using your inner sense. If you feel all flows nicely, it will be OK. If you get -even for one minute -a sensation of "blocking" or the idea goes cold to your perception, then that is a "no".

I think if you seek deep deep into your heart, beyond the superficial , you will see the answer to the help you need. ..........

One can certainly develop without using tarot cards.
There are many other divination tools, methods.

I find them a bit uncomfortable in appearance, (traditional ones).

If her mind is closed- made up, you could consider less obvious alternatives to tarot.
Or yes, practice elsewhere.

I've personally never yet used any tools for sharing readings.

Other than the I Ching when I first explored beyond the known world.
