what is the most horrific film you have ever seen?

I've seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I've seen The Exorcist. But the most disturbing film I've ever seen has got to be Starship Troopers by Paul Verhoeven. Those giant bugs and all the violence was just gross! lol.

Which is it for you?

I am going to take the word 'horrific' in the broader sense and say ' Eat, Pray, Love ' with Julia Roberts

Yes, you can take the word horrific in the broadest sense possible. Disturbing might have been a better word to use.

Yes Hellraiser is a nasty film, but the most horrific for me was 'Last House on the Left'.

It contains strong violence but the worst part by far was a very disturbing rape scene....an act of pure evil.

I'm not sure about the most disturbing, but this thread reminds me. I watched that film 'Goya's Ghosts' the other week and afterward I decided the best way I could describe it was 'really quite harrowing'. Good film though.

I'm not into gore exploitation films.
If a scene required a level of gore to emphasis a point, fine.
But movies where gore is the theme and star..no thanks.
Hostel, Saw etc.
Never have been a fan of horror films either.
But it depends on the craftsmanship of the film as some horror movies are thought provoking within an intelligently crafted story and characters.

But gore for gore's sake...pass.

Anyways, most horrific movies i have seen.
Saw I or II - my son wanted to see it
Hostel - again, my son's choice
Apocalypto
The Thing - John Carpenter's remake.
The Exorcist - the director's cut, the one with the spider\stair scene put back in.
Alien I
and prolly a few others from decades ago that i can't recall.

On the alternative side:
Happy Feet i still the only movie i have ever stopped watching due to how horrified i was by it.

Eat Pray Love is one of my favs.

What was that short B&W film Salvadore Dali did?

I think I only saw the opening scene, also I don't know if I would class them as horrific , but recall 'Whatever happened to baby jane' and 'Night of the Preacher' being psychologically scary
