As Gem suggested, contact a service that specialises in such matters i.e. the Samaritans. Or give your friend their number.

You're doing a good thing in trying to help. You're a true friend.
I wish you and your friend well. Hope everything will resolve itself.

@present_in_pain I second what Ocean Breeze said: most suicides fail, so your friend could end up in a situation that is even worse than before they did it, weeks to months in hospital with liver damage, brain damage, paralysis, etc.

I recently heard a story of assisted suicide (euthanasia) of a young person who was dieing of physical illness, as there was no use prolonging the inhumane road towards a certain death. But apparently a young body is so resilient that the 'struggle of death' (the actual process of dying, hours after a lethal injection) is extreme, a young body does not want to die even if the mind is made up, and it fights until the end. It's not as easy to carry out as some might think...

I also second what other people said: contact professionals who know how to deal with this. Getting some help from people who deal with this on a regular basis won't change the fact that you are being an amazing friend!

I have an opinion on this... but I won't be able to expand on this until tomorrow morning...
