I have squirrels in my roof space. They get up too early. They are grey squirrels, and I am getting very fed up with them....they are extremely tenacious and cheeky, bless their souls....LOL
Workmen put new barge-boards up, but somehow they have managed to dig their way under already....just to wake me up at five a.m. rolling avocado seeds around or making whatever din they feel like!
It would be nice to see a proper indigenous red squirrel where I live (SW UK) But I have never seen one here.

Tell them to stay up later, then they will sleep in longer ! LOL !
My sister has a similar problem, except with birds getting into the walls between the siding and the house. And like you, they find a way in even when extra boards were added.
Solution = norseman (guardian of the Red Squirrels ) send a few to Tobi !

Largely, methods of making life difficult for the Greys e.g. making their larger size a disadvantage for feeding and nesting boxes. I did hear of a scheme of oral contraceptives for the Greys but no details, sorry !
There is also a scheme, establishing a small population of Reds on an island where there are no Greys to provide a defense for the bloodline - again, I can't recall the details.
There was a lot of work done in Kielder Forest [ Northumbria ] to provide habitats for many species under threat - not just the Reds but also species like Pine Martins, Red Kites, etc. Conservation gathers apace, mostly thanks to volunteers.
Just put me down as a fanatic

I think you are referring to Brownsea Island, Dorset.

That's good news! I'll be keeping an eye out for red squirrels tomorrow.
~ it's great to see those fuzzy ears, and a little face peeking around the trunk of a tree, before darting off
