Never underestimate an animal....
I'm absolutely sure that if you are already on the "animals" section of this forum, you don't need any convincing of the intelligence of animals. However, the next time you meet a pompous "humans are the only intelligent beings" type, point out the following:

(Make sure to look at all ten pages by clicking "next")
Even more inspiring is this incredible parrot:

Enjoy!

I remember Alex, the african gray parrot. I was very sad to hear that he had died. I saw Alex on TV during a 60 minutes show. It was very clear that Alex loved Irene Peperberg and she loved him.

Well said, dear LPC. Animals have a degree of intelligence, consciousness and emotion that 'we' are unable or unwilling to acknowledge. They also have souls, as we do.
These truths combined put 'our' abuse of the Animal Kingdom in a very diffrent and altogether shameful light.
"The sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes..."

I agree, knightofalbion. They're living consciousnesses with a Soul, just like we are - so they're One with us, and with all that is. We cannot do them what we wouldn't like to be done to us, because everything we do to them, and to our Earth, is indeed done to us. We should learn from them, instead.
