Am Starting Meditation Again After 27 Year Hiatus

Hello folks,
Well I never In my life thought I would start to meditate "again",
I was done with it for too many reasons to go into,I started yesterday afternoon, laying on my bed,I can't sit for an hour due to multiple spinal surgeries.

Today was hard because of traffic noise etc,but I managed an hour all up.
At one point I felt the old "swaying" in a hammock,I used to feel that before leaving my body,I didn't want to leave my body but it felt like I could,am not sure what I am expecting from it,that's why I started this thread to write my feelings.

Cheers Billy.

I use to meditate a lot, but now I find it hard to want to do, because I feel I get nothing out of it, and because I wind up falling asleep, I am a person who want to see results. But recently someone told me to stop expecting results and JUST OBSERVE, and you will began to experience a lot more, I only just started doing that last night.

And what I can say is me expecting was making me stressful and angry, but when I just observed, I came out feeling a lot better tho I didn't experience anything .

That's a problem with a lot of folk, they fall asleep,I did my second meditation yesterday, it was better than the day before,so I expect that today's session will be better than yesterdays.
Yesterdays was again one hour concentrating cross eyed and looking up toward my brow, your eyes get very tired doing that and it makes you concentrate more.
But the strain soon goes and I have to just clear my mind,I meditate mid afternoon,so traffic, kiddies playing, you have to push them aside, then I get silence and a heavy feeling, and a lot of swirling colours, orange, purple and green and yellow.
If I start to sway I calm down so I stay in my body,I don't want nor have any interest in leaving my body, not just yet, that will come later,I am doing a form of "scrying" and trying to use my third eye as the lens.

Regards Billy,

Hi Billy, I wish you great success with your meditation, and hope it does for you what you need it to do at this point in your life! I really need to start meditating regularly too, so here's hoping I do!

Hi Billy.

I wish you much luck with your meditating.

I understand what you say about the swaying. I get that feeling when I try to project. But, I left astral projection in the past many years ago. I no longer try or bother with it.

I do not wish to project for no good reason.

My favorite way to meditate-although I do go to my own meditative imaginative states- is to just sit on the porch out of doors and listen to the birds and other natural sounds. People around make me feel safer, I don't find it too distracting. But that is my favorite way to meditate. Sit outdoors with my eyes wide open and quiet myself until I feel at one, and at peace.

I wish you blessings, and peace along your path.

I have no idea what made me want to start, maybe a little moral support for my older brother David in the UK who is battling cancer,he has decided on a holistic approach to healing,I have been giving him advice and in reality I need help too,we all do,a lot of folk put meditation off because they are "too busy",!,doing what?,nothing, zero.
So I thought I will give it another try, that's all,I am 64, I don't work due to injury,so I will start to meditate but not with any expectation, this is going to be a " croozy " laid back and extremely relaxed meditation, no hurry,no worry, just sit back, relax and go inside my own head.

Regards Billy.

I like the attitude you took towards starting to meditate again. And I can relate with the lie of not having enough time to set aside for meditation, where in reality I could meditate twice a day if I really wanted to.

This one ties to your previous post where you mentioned feeling like swaying while in meditation. I remember as a young kid in kindergarten, when we would go for an afternoon nap, before I could fall asleep I would entertain myself with focusing on the feeling of my body spinning around. I usually felt myself rotating around horizontal axis of my body which is curious to me. it is not the same as swaying, but I think the process is the same. Also it puzzles me why would I be doing this at the age of 4-5 years old. Though it sure does come in handy now if I need it haha.

People meditate for various reasons. I began many years ago as a teenager because I realised that I was looking for peace and love and happiness, and these could only be found within me, not in anything external. I just knew that I had to meditate.

When we first begin to meditate we may be full of enthusiasm and aspiration. Then we discover that real meditation is actually very difficult. It is not just the physical discomfort of trying to sit still for long periods; the real difficulty is the realisation that we have very little control of our minds. The mind is attracted to form and activity, whereas meditation is about turning our focus inwards to formlessness and stillness.

So people give up meditation. They find it boring, they do not see any results, or they would rather do anything but sit down and try to be still. Meditation requires practice and persistence, despite all the internal and external obstacles.

In meditation we remove ourselves from external distractions by just sitting quietly. We then discover all sorts of internal distractions in our thoughts and daydreams and desires. But eventually we find that there is a space between thoughts. Thoughts arise out of nothing and return into nothing, and in that empty nothing there is only peace and stillness.

It is worth all the effort. For me, meditation is the opportunity for consciousness to let go of everything and simply rest in Being. Meditation is like coming home to where we really belong.

Peace.

Good morning folks,
Do you know I forgot it was Good Friday on the Christian calendar, that's how and why I am meditating again, all these "hippie" type activities in the 70's in Australia, including flower children, meditation, free love,( whatever that means ) everyone being alternative this or that, more as a protest than a well thought out anarchy,to most it was a game,to others, well they liked the drugs, and still do, ( I do not use drugs,or alcohol now )

Nothing fits into my expectation of normal,to me being normal is being simple, meditation this time around is just " lay down an hour and see what happens"
So I lay down yesterday for my hour, like the two days prior pushing thoughts away from this black screen in front of me a screen that I imagined,I turned my whole conscious mind into a black screen, thoughts were now coloured mists, and as each thought come across my view I mentally moved it along its way, eventually I dozed off, only for ten minutes and I realised I was not asleep, but relaxed and fully conscious of where I was,I have a little trick I use after prayer at night before bed,not sure how it works I just know it does,I force my third eye to function,it lasts until you blink with closed eyes.I will tell you about it soon,if you want colour this is it,if its patterns then same, you get a personal firework display in your minds eye!

Happy Easter Billy.

I DIDENT KNOW IT WAS EASTER FRIDAY?

Good morning folks,
Well again I lay down to meditate but couldn't settle my unsettled mind,do you know I went to the local supermarket yesterday to get my newspaper, they open at 7am.

The whole main street in my little rural town was empty?
I thought what's going on here, its a Friday not Sunday!
I looked at the supermarket window and a big sign said,

" closed Good Friday"
" open Sat and Sun 9am to 5pm "
" open Easter Monday 8am to 6pm "

I forgot it was Easter?
How do you forget its Easter, well I did,the only phone calls I get are for doctors or hospital appointments, and my out going calls are to same!

I wondered yesterday where all my friends have gone, all those aquaintences I have had over the years, and now just me and Mr Moggs,
That's what I meditated on yesterday, where have the folk who for 45 years of working, socialising with, where are they!

My meditation was a pointless exercise, the fact I forgot Easter is worse than shocking, but I am having memory issues from these rotten diseases,Lyme and Mould, and the mould is invasive now,but to forget Good Friday, wow, that's big time?

So my meditation ended up a one hour nap,and very welcome it was too,I spent the morning weeding my old neighbours garden, she was crying the day before because her garden was overgrown, her " son " had promised to come from Perth and do it,he didn't come, that was 3 weeks ago,I think that's why she was crying, but me and Mr Moggs went and I spent 2 to 3 hours, filled a wheelie bin,she is 75 and double breast cancer survivor, but I like her and she likes Mr Moggs,
Its a win-win situation,lol,hahaha

Kind Regards Billy and Moggs.
