To Star Wolf Medicine Woman,.......Truly beautiful and moving, Thankyou for sharing. Deepsoul
To Native Spirit, With much Thanks and appreciation to yourself also! Deepsoul
I found this the other day;
When you arise in the morning
Give Thanks for the morning light.
Give Thanks for your life and strength.
Give Thanks for the joy of living.
And if perchance you see no reason for giving thanks,
Rest assured the fault is in yourself.
A chant of the Osages.

Oh Great spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to the world.
Hear me, I am small and weak, I need your stregnth
and wisdom.. Let me walk in beauty and let my eyes behold
the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharpto hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I can understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I seek stregnth not to be greater than my brother
but to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me always ready to come to you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
My spirit comes to you withut shame.

Translated from Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887

For me this is very special...

Just an Historical note. When the invading missionaries asked the Lakota, if they had a word for "god" they said they did not. They used a word that disscribed "all there is" or the "Great Mystery". The Missionaries because of their arrogance, their interpretation of this is to mean "God". The Great Mystery is not an Entity, to the early Lakota, but the Universe as a whole. The Great Mystery of All There Is. "wantatanka" ( I may be misspelling this word lol )

Yes Great Mystry indeed knows all.. I think you mean 'Wakantamkaka'..
Thankyou Thunder Bow, sadly a heck of a lot of things were mis translated...
For some unknown reason, The So called 'Civilised' US politicians expected all the ' Uncivilised savages' to keep their word in Peace Treaties...
Yet the US Government felt they didn't have to keep their word... They broke every single Treaty they ever drew up...

As we always love 'Wakan-Tanka; first and before all else, so we should also love and establish closer relationships with our fellow men, even if they be of another nation. Black Elk, Dakota Sioux

Now I Walk In Beauty

Now I walk in beauty
Beauty is before me
Beauty is behind me
Above me and below me
Around me and within me.

Traditional Navajo Prayer

Here is a song libana, a chant group, made with it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0hZujNbYg8

and another version someone made of libana's tune (with indonesian words/translation as well). lol:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4iIDeV2zKU

which i think is very pretty.. i sometimes like to think this prayer in my mind, and to visualize the directions and sense the beauty in all directions, doing so. (my use of this prayer is solely based on things i've read, etc. and i'm not tribally enrolled, but have relatives who are muskogee, cherokee, and likely other tribes. and am not navajo, but i just have an interest in many american indian cultures, which is how i found this prayer. i've found others too over the years, but i have them in books somewhere. maybe i'll dig them up, sometime.)
