American Indian Prayers

Hello, I was wondering if anybody could share some American Indian Prayers for living life well, I respect the culture and find strength in their spiritual connection with nature and their strong sense of self. Thank you Deepsoul

I lived in Canada for a while with my parents as a young girl and we were taught about the Inuit, Hope I spelt that right, I was only 9 years old, and dont remember A real lot but remember the power and beauty of totem poles that I saw around Vancouver.I intuitively wanted to give my son an American Indian name that being Mato meaning brave or bear actually his second name is Bear.Which brings me to an article in the national Geo Ive been purusing about the White Spirit Bear ,what a lovely creature. So that all said Thunder Bow Im not entirely sure and being ever the romantic am drawn to the idea of one day living in a teepee and spending as much time as possible in nature. I would be grateful for any tribes prayer that makes me feel grounded and loving. Deepsoul

I have never heard of any Inuit living in a Tipi. The Tipi was very much a portable structure to enable plains tribe to follow the migrating Bison.. Plains people were largely nomadic.

I know of those Totem poles in that park by the water in Vancouver.. They were from over 60 tribes not one specifically..

The I like this is a Native Wisdom saying rather than a prayer,

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
we are but one thread within it
whatever we do to the web,we do to ourselves
All things are bound together
all things connect,
man does not weave this web of life
he is merely a strand of it,
whatever he does to the web
he does to himself

A friend of mine has
a grandson he is called white bear they live in Manitoba

Namaste

i will give you this one that was sent to me by my friends when /i was very ill...

Oh Great spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to the world.
Hear me, I am small and weak, I need your stregnth
and wisdom.. Let me walk in beauty and let my eyes behold
the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharpto hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I can understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I seek stregnth not to be greater than my brother
but to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me always ready to come to you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
My spirit comes to you withut shame.

Translated from Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887

For me this is very special...

I have been looking for this one since this thread started. I first found it a year or two ago, & had never been able to find it again since.
Every word has meaning for me in a way that I had not found in any other prayer before. Love it!

Thanks very much for posting.
