the Ultimate hypocrisy

Every year people denounce Jesus and opppose christians and complain about religion being taught to kids in public schools.

Yet the same people take easter and christmas holidays paid for by their employers to celebrate the birth or death of Christ.

If they were true to their beliefs they would work on those holidays at rates not exceeding penalty rates because its not a special day to them. Its no different to any other day if you do not believe Jesus is lord and God. christmas and Easter are generally considered by countries to be christian and not pagan and that is why the public holidays.

what do you think?

I would not charge amuslim employer double rates for his holy day when I dont share his belief.

Hmm.. I see how you could see it that way... But I don't see it that way.

I am not christian and do not follow any organized religion. But I do believe that Jesus was a real man and was a wonderful and admirable teacher.

As for holidays...
I like the celebration and coming together with people you love. And I love the decorations, lol. So, I would naturally use that time off as an opportunity to partake in festivities and enjoy myself.

I don't think that people who denounce Jesus and Christianity are really using that time to celebrate the birth and death of Christ. I think its more like a vacation.

Good on you Rachael you have an acknowledgement of Jesus special place in our lives and my thread was not meant for people like yourself. Please enjoy Easter

Some people I know in my real life and not related to forums complain about penalty rates over Easter and call themselves Atheist. I have a problem with the consistency of that with regard to beliefs.

If you are true to your beliefs and yourself money does not matter..

No matter what its roots are in Jesus in our modern society even if some of it is pagan.

Hmm.. I see a conflict of interest there. I think maybe employers should just not pay extra in recognition of any particular religion.

That's my resolution. Lol.

I'll believe that if you can show me a western government or workplace employment agreement that mandates a public holiday dedicated to Santa or the easter bunny.

Christmas, Easter, Whitsun, Ascension Day are national holidays where I live. Companies are closed and unless you have a key to the offices, it is not possible to work on those days should you want to.
