Hello

I would rather there be a bit of "Mystery" at times to the living with what they are like, those I can read like an open book as that energy is right there and not vailed. For this I had to learn to ignore that aspect of me.....not turn it off but too re focus maybe on to the dead. Not sure how it works.

When first meet someone I know right off if they are OK or not to be around. With the non living its deeper than that they do not have the physical energy to stay connected.

Hello

Its not easy to break it all down as its different from country to country at times. Here in Canada there is a more defined line in Medium being working with the dead, and Psychic being working with the living and wanting nothing to do with the dead.

When in England at times I found it more all in one aspects with many readers being like me open to both sides of it.

Psychic

A psychic is a person who is responsive to psychic forces. These people may be capable of extrasensory perception, telepathy and other extraordinary abilities.

Medium

A medium is a person through whom the spirits of the dead are said to be able to contact the living. These people may often be referred to as channels since they act as a conduit for the spirits of the dead.

Combination

If a person is a psychic medium, than they should have qualities of both. Those who can allow the dead to speak through them, as well as communicate telepathically with others, are examples of psychic mediums.

What are the differences? The definitions have become interchanged and confused. Let’s take a moment to review and clarify so that you will connect with the right reader and get the most from your session.

Intuitive:

Intuition is a right brain process that taps into subconscious information in order to provide guidance about everyday life. Being intuitive means that you able to tap into subconscious information in order to receive guidance about your everyday life. Intuition can be used to receive guidance about your own life (personal intuition) or to help other people (professional intuition). People who are intuitive are not necessarily psychic. Being intuitive is about receiving guidance to make better decisions in your life, and helping guide others in theirs.

Psychic:

Being psychic, also known as being clairvoyant, means that you can perceive information that cannot be perceived through the normal senses (also called Extra Sensory Perception – ESP). That can include predicting the future, talking to non-physical beings (dead people, spirits) and being able to sense missing objects or people. Being psychic is about sensing information that other people can’t usually access.

Medium:

A medium is a psychic who has fine-tuned his or her extrasensory perception and can interface with the spirits in other dimensions. They are able to feel and/or hear thoughts, voices or mental impressions from the spirit world. A medium is able to become completely receptive to the higher frequency or energies on which spirit people vibrate.

Empath:

Empath means that you feel other people’s emotions as your own. For example, if someone around you is very angry you might start to feel angry yourself, even though there is no direct reason for you to feel this way. According to Wikipedia, “observing another person’s emotional state activates parts of the neuronal network involved in processing that same state in one, whether it is disgust, touch, or pain”. Empaths have the ability to scan another’s energy for thoughts, feelings and possibly for past, present, and future life occurrences.

Automatic Writing –

The act of writing is a disassociated of altered state of being. Automatic writing sometimes produces astounding results that seem to be beyond the ordinary knowledge or ability of the writer. Most automatic writer’s wanted to communicate with the dead or to contact a highly evolved discarnate being who will dispense wisdom. Thee writer us usually unaware of what is being written. Typically automatic writing is far more rapid than normal writing; as a consequence many words are joined together. The script is larger and more expansive than the writer’s own script, and in some cases has duplicated hand writing to the deceased person who has been contacted.

Channeling –

A form of Mediumship in which information is communicated from a source perceived to be different from the conscious self. Sources are identified variously as nonphysical beings, Angels, nature spirits, Totem or Guardian Spirits, deities, demons, extraterrestrials, spirits of the dead, and the Higher Self. Channeling is done in a disassociated or altered state of consciousness. As Mediumship it has existed in virtually all cultures throughout history and has gone through cycles of acceptance and rejection.

Clairaudience –

The hearing of sounds, music, and voices not audible to normal hearing. The term comes from French for “clear hearing.” Clairaudience is often intermingled with other basic psychic perceptions of Clairvoyance “clear seeing” and Clairsentience “clear sensing.” Clairaudience is often experienced in the dream state and related stages of consciousness. A clairvoyant dream may feature a message whispered by an unknown voice. It is common to hear clairvoyant voices and sounds in hypnagogic and hypnopompic states which boarders sleep.

Clairsentience-

A super physical sense perception that is one of the primary tools of a psychic. Clairsentience is derived from the French for “clear sensing” and was brought into popular usage during the late 18th Century. Clairsentience involves the psychic perception of smell, touch, taste, emotions and even physical sensations which contribute to and overall psychic and intuitive impression. Depending on the psychic this may register internally or externally.

Clairvoyance-

The perceptions of current object, events or people that may not be discerned through the normal senses. Clairvoyance from the French “clear seeing” is a common psychic occurrence. The seeing may manifest in internal or external visions, or sensing of images. Clairvoyance seems to be a general ability among humans, and it also seems to appear in animals. Clairvoyance is experienced in different ways and degrees. In its simplest form, clairvoyance is the internal seeing of symbolic images, which must be interpreted according to a person’s own system of meaning. In its highest form, clairvoyance is viewing of nonphysical planes, then Astral, Etheric, and spiritual worlds and the beings that inhabit them, and the auric fields surrounding all things in nature. Most clairvoyant’s experiences fall between the two.

Direct-voice Mediumship

A method of spirit communications in which a spirit speaks directly to an audience without using the medium’s voice apparatus. In early Spiritualism direct-voice Mediumship took the form of the dead communicating through trumpets and megaphones, which amplified their voices. Sometimes a spirit voice seemed to from a point in space near the medium.

Ectoplasm-

A white fluidic substance said to emanate from the bodily orifices of a medium that is modeled by spirits to assume phantom physical shapes. Substances purported to be ectoplasm have photographed, but the existence has never been proven. According to some mediums, ectoplasm is exuded only under certain conditions, such as in trance states during a séances. Ectoplasm supposedly manifests as a solidified white mist and has a peculiar smell and is said to be damaged by light….why séances are conducted in dim lighting conditions.

Electronic Voice Phenomenon-

The recording on magnetic tape of what seems to be supernatural voices, some of which are audible. Some for the voices identify themselves, as spirits of the dead. Other theories to explain them propose that they are extraterrestrials, impressions from the Akashic Records, or unknown phenomenon of the subconscious mind. Many physical researchers believe the voices, at least in some cases, are intercepted radio transmissions or static, or distorted mechanical noises.

ESP (Extrasensory Perception) -

A so-called “sixth sense”, in which sensory information is perceived, thought means beyond the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. ESP brings a person’s information about the present, past or future. It seems to originate innate in a second or alternate reality.

Intuition -

A clear and direct knowing from within also referred to as a hunch, a gut feeling, a gut response, and even luck. Intuition is a knowingness that comes without explanation as to how or why. It is a right brain function involving extrasensory perception (ESP), but more much broader; it functions on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Each individual experiences intuition differently. There may be physical sensations such as a tingling of the skin or a feeling of laden weights in the stomach; clairvoyant or inner voice; seemingly inexplicable attractions or aversions to newly met people; inspirational solutions to problems; feelings of closeness to God, or the Divine Forces; mental imagery; or cues from the environment, such as circumstances that alter plans.

Omen -

A sign, often of a supernatural or psychic nature, of a future event. Many omens are found in the natural World. The ancients of East and West examined the entrails of animals and observed changes in the elements and the movements or appearances of animals and birds. They also observed the movement of heavenly bodies. Usual occurrences, such as monstrous births, eclipse, comet, meteors, novac, floods, storms, and earthquakes, were considered to be omens of disasters or Devine unhappiness with human kind.
Dreams have provided omens for years. Unlike oracular dreams, in which an explicit Devine message is given to the dreamer, omen dreams are symbolic and must be interested. Some precognitive dreams are clearer, in which the dreamer previews plane crashes, car accidents, ship sinking’s, fires and other disasters. The appearance of apparitions and visions also is considered an omen.

Oracle -

A method of divination and prophecy in which deities or supernatural beings are consulted, usually through a human medium who, in trance possession, allows the entity to speak. Various cultures throughout history have relied heavily upon oracles for advice and wisdom as to the best course of action to take.

Possession -

The taking over of a person’s mind, body, and soul by an external force perceived to be a deity, spirit, demon, entity, or separate personality.
Possession generally is unwanted a troublesome. It has been recognized since antiquity, and has been blamed for virtually every conceivable problem of luck, health, wealth, love, and sanity. Some types of possession, such as by gods or Holy Spirit are desirable, and voluntary. Some types of Mediumship such as direct voice and channeling are forms of temporary possession by spirits of the dead or non-physical entities. The cure for unwanted possessions is exorcism, performed according to a specific ritual. Voluntary possession, on the other hand, terminates at end of a religious ceremony, healing ritual, or sitting.

Precognition -

The direct knowing or perception of the future, obtained through extraordinary means. Premonition is the most frequently reported of all the extrasensory perceptions (ESP) experiences, occurring most (60 to 70 percent) in dreams. It also happens spontaneously in waking visions and auditory hallucinations, thoughts that flash into the mind, and a sense of “knowing”. Precognitive knowledge may also be induced through trance, channeling, Mediumship, and divination.

The majority of spontaneous precognitive experiences happen within forty-eight hours of the future event, particularly within twenty-four hours. A rare few happen months or even years before the actual event takes place. Severe emotional shock seems to be a major factor in precognition. By a four to one ratio, most concern unhappy events, such as death and dying, illness, accidents, and natural disasters. Intimacy also is a key factor 80 to 85 percent of such experiences involves a spouse, family member, or friend with whom one has close emotional ties. The remainder involves random strangers, most of whom are victims in major disasters such as airplane crashes and earthquakes.

Prediction -

A type of prophecy in which information about future events is obtained through physic gifts, divine inspiration, the reading of sings, or the altering of consciousness. While prophecy is often of a grand scale, relating to large groups or nations of people, prediction concerns the individual. The majority of psychic readings are devoted to questions about probable events in an individual’s future.

Predictions are based on precognitive or direct knowledge of the future. This knowledge is sought through many way’s; intuition, dreams or visions, in scrying or though the reading of sign, such as astrology, the Tarot, palmistry, and other methods of divination.

Premonition -

A type of prophecy that is a sense of forewarning or foreboding of a probable future even, characterized by a state of anxiety, unease, and a gut-level feeling. Premonitions tend to occur before disasters, accidents, deaths and other traumatic and emotionally charged events.
There is no clear cut line between premonition and precognition, which is direct knowledge of the future. In general premonitions are sense-oriented, dominated by a syndrome of physical unease, expression, or distress that has no discernible source or reason. “I feel like something bad is going to happen” is a typical expression of a premonition. Precognitions, on the other hand are more precise, in that it is yet to take place.

Prophecy -

A divinely inspired vision or revolution of great events to come, which are of such magnitude as to affect races, groups of people and countries. All prophecies come from precognition or knowledge of the future, but not all precognitive experiences are prophecies; the key difference is the divine spark, or inspired element. Sometimes however, little or no distinction is made between a prophecy and a prediction. In Religious prophecies are made by prophets, great men and women divinely chosen to preach the divine message, such as Jesus, Muhammad, and Buddha. In another sense prophecies are psychic readings of the collective unconscious, the anticipation of the manifestations of the collective will.

Psychic Attack -

An allegedly paranormal assault upon humans or animals that causes physical or mental distress, injury, illness, or even death. Psychic attacks is said to happen by two means.
1) The human direction, such as by a scorcher, of nonphysical agent such as malevolent spirits, demons, or thought forms.
2) A human assault accomplished by the out- of-body projection of a double or astral form.
In Sorcery, the equivalent of psychic is a curse. Some tribal sorcerers are renowned for their alleged ability to magically kill others with wasting disease that seems to resist medical help and reportedly leaves some victims virtually bloodless by the time of death.
The most common symptom of psychic attack is the “Hag” syndrome in which the victim awakens feeling a crushing weight on the chest accompanied by paralysis. In some attacks the victim may see a form, hear noises, or smell vile odors. Nightmares occur in some cases. This syndrome has been documented since ancient times and occurs in an estimated 15% of the adult population worldwide.

To be most effective psychic attacks are supposed to be launched during the waning Moon and especially at the new Moon. The Moon is said to govern psychic forces, and these phases rule the so called left-hand path, evil path, or magic.

Psychic Reading -

A sitting with a psychic or medium in which, psychic ability is used to answer a client’s questions. Most people seek psychic readings for information about the future, advice on how to handle problems and relationships, communications with deceased loved one’s and divination for finding a missing person and objects. Such services have been rendered by psychically gifted people since ancient times.

Remote Viewing -

Seeing remote or hidden objects clairvoyantly with the inner eye, or in alleged out-of-body travel. In the past remote viewing was called “travelling clairvoyance” and “telesthesia”. The term ‘remote viewing’ was coined in the 1970’s by American psychiatrist Russell Targ and Harold Puthoff. Targ suggests a more accurate name is “remote sensing” for it involves psychic impressions of smell, sound and touch as well as sight. Researchers have not been able to explain exactly how remote viewing works.

Scrying -

A method of divination done by gazing upon an object such as a crystal ball or mirror until clairvoyant visions are seen on the surface or in the mind’s eye. Scrying is an ancient art dating back to the early Egyptians and Arabs. Scryers attempt to look into the future and answer questions, solve problems, find lost objects, and people, and identify or find criminals.
Scrying comes from the English word “descry”, which means “to succeed in discerning” or “to make out dimly”. The too Scryers, called a speculum, can be any object that works for an individual, but usually is one with a reflective surface. The oldest and most common speculum is still water in a lake, pond or dark bowl. Ink, blood, and other dark liquids have been used by Egyptian Scryers for centuries. The French physician and astrologer Nostradamus scryed with a bowl of water set upon a brass tripod. His preparatory ritual consisted of dipping a wand into the water and anointing himself with a few drops of water, then gazing into the bowl until he saw visions.

Spirit Photography (also) Paranormal Photography -

Photographs of image of unseen people or spirits. Spirit photography had its beginnings in 1861, when Boston Jewelry engraver William Mumler took a self-portrait and after developing the photographic plate, noticed the images of a dead person next to his. Since the many individuals have claimed to photograph these “extras”.
Spirit photography appeared as Spiritualism was sweeping America, and it quickly became popular with some spiritualists who took it as proof of survival after death. Spirit photography sank into disrepute for a number of years because many of the photographs looked fake, a claim supported by numerous cases involving fraud.

Debate continues among researchers whether the images are created by the spirits of the dead themselves, or whether the person sitting for the photograph or the photographer mentally projects the image onto the film, creating “Thoughtograpy.” (The idea that because the spirit, being pure reality transcends the physical laws of light and acts directly upon the (film) plate, without going through the camera. Stutdied by Tomokichi Fukarai President of the Physical Institute of Japan in 1931.

Spirit Photography (also paranormal photography)

Photographs of images of unseen people or spirits. Sprit photography has its beginnings in 1861, when Boston jewelry engraver William Mumler took a self-portrait and after developing the photographic plate, noticed the image of a dead person next to his. Since then many individual have claimed to photograph these “extras”. For example, psychic photographer William Hope said he took more than 2500 pictures of extras in his 25 year career during the early part of the twentieth century. In most spirit photographs, the extras are seen seated next to or standing alongside the individual whose picture had just been taken.

Spirit photography then sank into disrepute for a number of years because many of the photographs looked faked, a claim supported by numerous cases involving direct fraud. In some instances photographers exposed negatives of a supposed extra on a film plate to create a double exposure. Other times photographs of individuals said to be extras turned out to be pictures of people who were very much alive. Even so, in some case these individuals had never been photographed before, making it difficult to explain how these photographs could have been faked if there was no negative.
Debate continues among researchers over whether the image are created by the spirits of the dead themselves, or whether the person sitting or the photographer merely project the image onto the film, creating a “throughtofograph.”

Spirit photography is used by some ghost hunters in their investigations of haunted sites. When the film is develop, the photographer looks for anomalous lights, shadows, and shapes that were not visible to the naked eye. As evidence of paranormal phenomena, spirit photography remains controversial.

I have so much on the topic of Psychic and Mediumship. There is so much to it all. Too these are just my thoughts on it all....nothing with this is carved in stone.

Hello

I am aware of the term - its not one that has fit the "human experience" for me is all and while I embrace its there, not one I have even come to have used in workshops over the years. I do a lot of crossings at times pulled to watch those "ghost busting shows on TV to help" for me that is the Light Worker in me that steps in. What I do know is that its very draining at times on the physical being we are. Too I often get maybe too emotionally invested.

Here is one view of it -

Psychopomps are creatures, spirits, angels, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls from Earth to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply to provide safe passage.
