Proverbs & Words of Wisdom

Please post your favorite proverbs or words of wisdom - ancient and modern.

If they are another person's words, please cite/reference appropriately. If you don't know the author, claim unknown or anonymous. And of course, feel free to also post your own insights.

Please remember to keep it short - no more than a few sentences.
