Hi Dukedom. You've made great progress in two years. The problem you've got with the nightmares and the loss of control is because your a dreamwalker. It's a very specific skill set and has its own specific drawbacks. Stopping meditating is not the way out. It won't stop the nightmares but if you can get into the dream realm you will be able to stop them. I think that's why your subconscious is still sending you into trance.
You can send me a pm if you want to discuss it in more depth.

Focus is the exact opposite of meditation. If you want to stop meditation, start focusing on something, anything: Start doing math in your head, or doing a puzzle, watch a movie, recite lyrics, do physical exercises. Things like that.

But of course the easiest thing to do if you want to stop meditating is focusing on your breathing.. I know this flies in the face of some people, but any technique you can possibly use, is concentration, not meditation.

According to me you shouldn't stop meditating. Keep doing it, you are going through some problems at that time but it will not last long..soon you will find solutions for that and meditation is not the cause of any problem instead it will help you to control over your emotions and thinking.

I taught myself how to meditate, using the "mind your breathing" technique, and, after exactly two years of practicing, I got to be quite good at it. I can now stop thinking, or, better said, stop being bothered by thoughts, become an empty vase as it were, whenever I want. Now, when I meditate, I inadvertently tilt my head backwards, open my mouth, open my eyes, have this blurry vision, go really deep, and sense that I've lost control over my mind and everything. This is accompanied by all sorts of experiences, emotions and sensations. What really bothers me are the vivid disturbing dreams, many times vivid nightmares. I'm so creeped out I cursed the day I started meditating. It's too disturbing. So, I stopped meditating. However, probably because I'm so used to it, my mind goes into the meditative state, each day, at the same time (at night) when I used to meditate, without my consent.
Please help me, how do I stop meditating before I lose my mind, is there a way to go back. Thank you.

If you inadvertently tilt your head, mouth open, body bent,.. etc during meditation, it means you lost your awareness and focus.
Try sit(meditate) with half/full lotus posture and dhyani mudra. Your both thumbs should touch each other. During meditation scan your body from up to down(repeat).
When you scan your head, say in your heart: my head is straight.
When you scan your eyes, say in your heart: my eyes are closed.
When you scan your mouth, say in your heart: my mouth is closed.
When you scan your shoulder, say in your heart: my shoulder is straight.
When you scan your thumbs, say in your heart: my thumbs are touch each other.
....
....
Sit and maintain the posture for 1 hour.
If you feel pain on your back bone, legs, or... etc, say it on your heart during the scan process.
Do for 1 month(sit everyday for 1 hour).
Don't focus or aware your breath, just scan your body. You have pass this first before go to next step(aware your breath).
Hope it helps

Many people, including myself, can not sit in half or full lotus. Most Westerners are not at all used to sitting on the floor, so will find cross legged posture very uncomfortable, and lotus positions impossible. Some, actually most, may need back support, cushions to prop up the knees or other thing. There are also issues where a new meditator will find it very hard to maintain posture for a full hour. I would suggest not saying anything to yourself at all during meditation time. The breath is usually used to refine the focus first and then the body scan comes after.

Cross legged posture and half/full lotus posture, both are very different. Cross legged posture never been recommended for meditation posture. My friend from US said that her friend learn full lotus posture just in 3 months. Sit on chair only for people who have back/leg/knee problem.
Thread Starter is not a new meditator, have been meditate for 2 years, and not being bothered by thoughts, become an empty vase as it were, whenever he/she want. If have already reached 'not being bothered by thoughts', sit for 1 hour in any kind of posture should be easy. There will no uncomfortable, suffering,...etc.
You might want read anapannasati sutta and you will know why I suggest it to thread starter.
