You're a lot closer than I could ever hope to be! I only have 'family legend' to go by- no documentation, not even a single name- that says at some point my great-great-great-grandmother (one of them, from some branch leading to me) was Iroquois or married an Iroquois and the rest is history. Other family members say Cherokee. My mother's mother said Seminole! So who knows- all of it may be true, some of it may be true, or none of it! I'd like to think I was 'connected' in some way- and although it may just be wishful thinking, I do feel that way sometimes. But, I can't prove a shred of it as there are no records so I'm just stuck out here not knowing which way to turn, or if there IS a way to turn!

Sadly, much was lost to genocide and ethnic cleansing. My 1st nations relations suffered deeply painful wounding of the heart and soul. (those who survived) Magdna is correct that the Trail of Tears was not just the Cherokee, rather it was all of the various tribes from the East. My dear sweet beloved grandmother was 1/2 Cherokee, but lost from the tribe due to ethnic cleansing :( She along with other children were taken away by the invaders and raised by white people. I was then born 1/16 Cherokee in white people lands. This has always been a source of pain for me which is why I hesitate to write this here. However, I think it's important for you to know this is why you have lost your tribe.

I was lucky to have been adopted back by the Sixkillers. Although this is only a familial relationship, and not a tribal membership. It's kind of interesting because each part of my roots comes from a situation of deeply wounding of the heart and soul. You might say the Trail of Tears itself is just another portion of a much larger global scale of misery inflicted on humanity. As the Celts say- they (the crown/pope) were slaughtering us Celts long before they went to Africa and the Americas.

Anyway, I'm here to heal and make amends for the past wrongs on this planet Earth. And to bring in the Golden Age.

I like your name :-) I carry crow medicine & despite my non tribal status I still get shamanic support for which I am eternally grateful. Anyway, welcome to the forum and nice to meet you. Namaste.
